Sooooooo many accidents due to greedy crooks!!!

On a more serious note, I was coming back home from my dubai office earlier, and my business partner pointed out that at least half of the tyres on 8 out of 10 trucks or Heavy Goods Vehicles were bald.

He said that many of the business owners here are just negligent crooks because it's the drivers not the owners that get the blame if there is an accident.

He also said that in the gulf, a set of new tyres is worth more than a worker's life and alleged that many of the truck companies "hire" road worthy tyres just for the M.O.T. (road worthiness) test and then put the old tyres back on afterwards.

Now, I know labour can be cheap in the gulf, but I find it very hard to believe that many business owners would risk the lives of their workers and the general public over the cost of a set of tyres!

In the UK, the police would confiscate these vehicles on the spot!

Is this situation True?   Don't they have laws in the Gulf states for this?

Does this happen in Qatar as well?

(Serious and non-serious posts welcome) Smile

lol you always here these sort of things.

Last rumour I heard was that in Dubai they were changing plates on similar looking vehicles during checks because they didn't check the VIN numbers.

Is it true? Who knows.

Darude.. it is not only 100% worse. The time one spends on road inside ur vehicle in Dubai is killing. U have to leave ur home by 6 am to reach office and by 8 pm only - u are back home. there is no life in Dubai except for a tourist (Maybe)

Apperently it is a common thing in the highway. I would say its the driver's fault. They should check the lorry's condition before they get on the wheel, It will not only save his live and other ppls live as well.

I had experiance once when the lorry's back door suddenly open and cargo start falling on the road. That is why I keep my distance or avoid tailing a lorry at all.

Da, now you're scaring me...how did you know I was sneezing?  I do happen to have the mother of all colds right now.  I caught it by sitting in traffic for so long in Dubai.

In what way is the traffic 100 time worse?  If you're implying that you have to sit there 100 longer, then I agree.

But, I'm talking about road safety and steps that buiness and individuals should take.

I'm glad you managed to survive that!

Are there no laws protecting people's lives.

Are people's lives really worth less than a new set of tyres?

QT ... come down to Qatar Industrial Area and see all those pick ups and trucks on the road.

I also very wary when i drive behind a car with wobbly tyre. When we lived in Malaysia ... we were travelling to the airport and a truck coming in the opposite direction towards us lost 2 of its wheels at the same time. They headed towards us down the centre of the road before veering off the road either side of us. Luckyly we stayed still and they missed us, had we took avoiding action and pull off the road we would have been hit. I am sure it is also a common things here in Qatar.
