Quilting
We have a very active sewing, quilting group here in Qatar, all nationalilties welcome.
If you want info write to me. The Quilting Guild meets once a month and other groups
meet during the week to work together. Quilting is alive and well in Qatar, we have lots of talented ladies doing incredible artwork.
The store in Dubai is:

I don't know of any embroidery group and one time Mushieri brought someone to help teach on their 440's. I have also been pushing Mushieris to bring other tools but no luck so far and we have a good connnection there. One lady is good at embroidery but a different machine but she is not here now. I will tell all the ladies to ask at Jarirs, its funny as they can easily sell the batting. The store in Dubai had silk batting which was nice just expensive.
Thanx again.
I am going to Jarir today and will speak to someone about batting. If we all make that request they will maybe reconsider keeping stock again.
Maybe we can also speak to the owner of Al Mushiri requesting them to sell batting. I have met him briefy one day and he seems a very nice man. I think that most of us take our machines there for service etc. and this will only be another service they can provide to us.
Is there a machine embroidering group? I just started 6 months ago and at the moment I am teaching myself but there is so much that books cannot teach you.I would love to attend classes in this.
Can you give me the name of the store in Dubai so I can order from them?
Our Guild Meeting is the last Wednesday of the month if you write to that e-mail they can send you our newsletter which outlines all the cool stuff we do. The Charity group is very active they just made some Quillows for Breast Cancer Patients they are Quilts that turn into Pillows. Also, then you can find what group meets in your area weekly we jump from house to house and do our hand sewing, there are a few groups running. This monht at the meeting a member will show how she does a technique called quilt as you go. As far as I know the only Batting available is from the quilt store in Dubai. Sometimes the lady who owns that store comes here and sells her tools and batting. Jarir used to sell the batting but doesn't anymore maybe if enough of us ask for it they will bring it again. I was told in Kuwait you can find nice Amy Butler fabric very cheap. I have been trying to encourage young ladies at VCU to join our group as the tools we use and the techniques we do are really helpful for making creative clothes as thats what I did before I started quilting. Even in America my Bernina repairman said the 440 is the best machine, they sell it at Al-Mushieri here by the Jaidah roundabout. Hope you can all join us.
Thanks for the info Eve.
I have send a e-mail to the address you gave and are waiting for a reply from them. It has been a while since I made quilts but are slowly getting back into it. At the moment I am combining machine embroidery with quilting and it is so rewarding. Eventhough I have been doing this creative sewing for many years I do believe that you can always learn something new from someone else so I would love to attend your meetings.
At the moment I am almost out of batting and desperately need to buy some but just can't find a shop selling it. Can anybody help me?
Just bought myself the Bernina 440QE. What a lovely machine. Don't know how I ever made so many quilts in the past without it.
I want to join
is it in the morning or evening??

thanks Eve, actually i don't need to learn... i can rather teach...:) One of my degrees is in fashion design, i can sew cloths from the scratch, everything, from the simple skirt, to the wedding dress.. i used to knit too.. but even though i left this field some time ago, it would be still interesting for me to use my skills and knowledge again, especially when it comes to the charity.... so I might join you guys.. thanks again for info :)

We have many sewing groups that meet once a week to sew together and then a Guild meeting once a month. You can e-mail [email protected] to get more information. We have every nationality and if you become a member of the Quilt Guild you can check out quilting books, join in competitions and see demonstrations in quilting and much more. We are very active you can see one of our quilts at the upcoming Think Pink Charity Walk in Oct. 30, 09, as well as some pillows I am making to raise funds for this charity and many other had made items are being made. Also, our group has made baby quilts for Hamad Hospital. Its a great way to learn new skills and see what others are making. The best machine by most quilters in Qatar is the Bernina 440 a very versatile machine. In February there will also be a quilt show in Dubai! Come join in, the skills you learn in quilting can also help make creative clothing. We use quick methods of cutting and sewing. You can attend our meeting once a month as a guest or join for the year.
and do you guys have sewing machines? where do you gather? could you please elaborate?

This is an interesting hobby/profession, I'm not into it, but thought I had to let you know that I admire this kind of art.
