Dear Canadians! Income Tax Question!

Well, my 2007 is fully done in Qatar…Now I guess  it’s time to file my Income Tax return for 2007…

How do we do it? Are there special forms for those who live out of Canada? Or maybe is it better to declare a non-residency? then what are advantages and disadvantages of declaring non-residency?

How (if) do you guys, file your Income Tax ? On line? Accountant?

Please…. any advice…

Thanks.

Since I am a non resident myself and DON'T file my taxes i'm not a 100% certain....but I THINK you can file them online even....and yes you SHOULD declare where you live, trust me the gvt won't mind, they will be HAPPY that you live abroad and are paying taxes!

Log onto the CCRA website and maybe you can get more info from there:

Hope that helps and stay safe.

Perfection does not exist. The question therefore, is: what level of imperfection are we willing to settle for?

Actually I do own house in Toronto, but it's rented out...and I have just renewed my health card and driver license during my trip to Canada in October...lol...

But let’s say if I want to file Income tax, are there some special forms for it? If I file my Income Tax, should I state that I live out of Canada?

thanks

Hi Qatarisun.....

If you are living in Qatar 183 days a year or more, then its better to declare yourself a non resident of Canada....and then you are exempt from taxes in Canada.

Having said that however, the Canadian Gvt MAY contest your status if you own property in Canada that is not leased out to a non relative (what they call am arms length transaction) ergo available for your immediate use. You should also let your drivers license and medical cards (like the Quebec healthcare card) expire...that's the disadvantage.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Stay safe.
