Good Areas
Hello,
Hope someone can help. I am visiting Doha from the weekend as I have a job offer and am coming out to look around at schools, properties and meet the people from my potential employer. This is to really help me decide whether I will take the job.
I have one day to see properties, and wondered a) whether anyone could recommend good estate agents, b) what hours the agents open and c) what are good areas. I have looked online and seen a number of areas including:
Al Sadd
Al Thumama
Al Maamoura
Al Garrafa
Al Waab
Are any of these areas OK? I want to ensure the area is generally tidy, and safe particularly as I have a young child.
Any information would be a great help.

My husband may be getting a job in Qatar, and we will all be moving over.. I have two kids aged 1yr and 3yrs.. Are the nurseries good?? And what are my chances of getting a part time job?? I used to be a special needs nanny and have worked in the middle east before?
Wherever you live here you will be free of groups of hoodies, dirty needles in children's play areas and, on the whole, anti social neighbours. Residential areas are generally more child friendly than in the UK, especially the fact that that they can play unsupervised without the worry of strangers. Good luck in your search
I live in mamoura....its just fine, its pretty quiet and its easy to get to any part of town from here...we live here because its near my school. but al sadd and al waab are nice areas too. You probably want to live in a compound since you get a lot of amenities with it!
I like Al Waab area. Lots of nice compounds. Close to a lot of schools, malls (Villaggio and Hyatt Plaza), Khalifa stadium with walking paths/park/playground and a huge new park will be opening up behind Hyatt Plaza one of these days...
Al Gharaffa is a nice area too. Easy enough to access downtown as well Al Waab area from the backside. Lots of new compounds going up there. If we had our choice we would live there bc it's closer to husbands work.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
Me too , i am of a house hunting , looking for an stand alone small villa, 2-3 bed, dining, hall, kitchen, with parking, and mulhaq (small room) outside
"There's nothing we can do to change the past, if it teaches you a lesson profit from it then, forget it."
frankly a good area is one which suits ur requirement , i mean close to ur workplace or ur childs school etc. affordability is also very important. al waab has very nice compounds and is a good area but very expensive. some parts of al sadd are very nice but some very crowded. it is very centrally located. al mamoora looks more like iraq after US bombing but suits me because my kids' school is in that area. al gharafa is on the outskirts of doha, a bit too far for my liking. i havent heard of al thumama.
house hunting is a nightmare in doha so best of luck!
