I for one am not really familiar with the names, but sure do hold a high amount of respect for the Qawaals and Shayars. I have attended some of them in India and get all engrossed in the energy levels. i dont really speak urdu, but sure do love the language from the most of it that I understand.
Dil I am not sure if there is - in Qatar that is. But in India, visit any 'Mazar' or those sufi places and they are still popular there. I have heard the likes of 'Parvin Rangeele' and 'Sabri brothers' and even 'Reshma'.
Talkin of Qawalees, guess those would have been great times when Qawalee mehfils were quite in vogue....so i hear. Are there any more of such Mehfils anywhere?
Moin Akhtar, I like him too. He conducts this show which is aired in the afternoon with another guy (don't remember his name nor the name of the show) mostly political sarcasm. The duo are so funny and have made fun of indians as well. Got to go now. Bye.
My wildest guess is that you are Umar Shariff's fan (You know that stage artist who says 'chichori and waheyat' poems. Sorry that's what he says. His words.) I like that too.
Hmmm... now I know how to punish you if ever. LOL. Agree, he is a bit gloomy. But what will you do if you are taken to a 'mushaira' some day. They will really kill you with their poetry and they put this long necked lantern in front of poets which is a slow poison killing for those who hate poetry. They (who hate poetry)would rather be in a pool filled with alligator's.
Darude, Mirza Ghalib is one of the best urdu poets of his times with a lot of sarcasm in his poetry. Infact I like another poet from across the border, he is called Bulle Shah (sufi poet) but unfortunately can not understand the punjabi he speaks. The ones I do are really good ones. What do you know I even like kawallees. Infact I have watched many going in 'surror' if you know what I mean.
TZP, went to the theatre's after a gap of 4 years, courtesy hubby's office mate. Wept throughout the movie, very heartwarming. I really embarresed myself in front of the ladies by weeping so much, must have been the effect of theatre. While hubby and son dozed off.
LIB, in that case I can safely say 'bade miya diwane aise na bano; haseena kya chahe humse suno'. No offense. Just joking. Saira is one of my favourite as well.

Here is another Ghalib :
Ishq ne ghalib nikamma kar diya,
warna hum bhi aadmi the bade kam ke.
There is another one I cannot recollect where he says his poetry is being affected by the household chores.
