i'm a girl who will be married in may,2008. My husband is working in qatar and therefore i too will be joining him by the month of july. He is also new to qatar and therefore he is not able to give me enough info.
I've completed my btech enggineering IT course in 2004, but i haven't yet cleared my papers. I wont be able to finish them by the end of 2008 also. But i want to work once i reach qatar.Since i have only a course completion certificate of btech i'm worried about getting a decent job in qatar. I'm presently learning .NET course just to be on the safe side. I have a good communication skill. I would like to know if i stand any good chance of getting a decent job and if yes then in which all fields. It would be grateful of you if you could tell me more about what course i should be learning if i require further qualifications in any specific field.I have time of 4 months to do any short term course before my wedding. Can someone please help me on this.

Hi all,

'its_quddus' mentioned SAP technology in his reply. Can you can one shed some light on where those jobs are? I have over 10 years experience working for multinational US companies. I have a hard time locating a good agency which specializes in placing US and Canadian citizens in Qatar.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Having said that you are facing it harder to clear them...then do the undertable stuff...get it cleared girl...you need to get yourself that Engg. Degree...

As suggested above, SAP is for those who have creditable Experience working...

As for you girl, try and see if you could do Multimedia, Graphics, or Media...that is an option that you could explore...

Have you been a TOMBOY in college that you havent been able to clear the subjects girl...? Now what were you upto in College...?

well i'm not keen on working in the IT programming field itself.i learned .net so as to be on de safe side. i did hear about good possiblities in networking but i also heard it is not preffered for girls since everyone prefer hiring men. multimedia was another option by many friends. but noone was able to give me any proper info on either.

Congratulations in advance for getting married in 2008!!!!

Angel, since you have background of IT, you can handle and learn easily new applications and programming languages. Since Qatar is rapidly growing, you have better future in SAP. Its very easier for you to learn any module in SAP like(SAP ABAP programming, FICO, and SD)

I would encourage you to learn SAP ABAP (Business application programming), it may sounds difficult to learn, but if you could join any good institute you would definately get certified in two months. Now coming to the opportunity in SAP, PPl in QL knows better. But as long as I believe QATAR has great opportunities for SAP professionals.SAP has been implemented in QATAR long back company like Qatar Petroleum has great job opportunities.

The other options are Technical Writing, Software Testing Engineering (Learn any Automation tool like QTP, Load runner, win runner), and J2EE.

Best of luck!!!!!

Hey there champ,

As much as I kept reading the post, it was pretty clear that you are coming from the Sub-Continent (please correct me if I am wrong)...

Anyways, jokes aside, first of all, congrats on your marraige...and second what in the world are you doing with so many arrears girl, get your mind on the papers and clear them...its high time...

Alright, moving on, .NET is I would say not that helpful, what I could suggest you is something to do with ORACLE, you know we get those courses back home that teach you ORACLE...

Second, to be frank, as someone just put it above, the IT Industry isn''t that lucrative (in my words) here in Qatar like it is back home...the jobs here in IT are cleaned up with mostly contacts of the right people in the right place...but having said that, what I could suggest is you could always get into a company as a Trainee and then make your way into Sales (IT-Related), and then Administration (again IT-related), and then gain your experience as time moves on and keep building on those IT Skills and then move up the ladder, it is more like...

Sales -> Administration -> Pre-sales -> Design -> Implementation -> Managerial Positions...and up you go...for this you require time, skills, knowledge, and ofcourse, a good hard working and receptive nature...

So there you go champ...take care and in the meanwhile...as your .NET courses, try and see if you could pick up something on the Networking Areas (LAN, CISCO, MICROSOFT) or ORACLE (Language and Application Developments in general), or Power yourself with MS OFFICE (so you could fit into the office types jobs)...

Any other info, let me know...

At this point of time, I could tell you to be cool, calm, concentrate on finishing those papers, equipping yourself with more knowledge (try and see if you could get a practical feel of the things you study) and have a fabulous marraige...and ofcourse when you are coming here to Qatar...remember me and get me those DAMN MARRAIGE SWEETS GIRL...

Till then you can always catch me here on the general board or just PM me...

So take care and once again...Have a Blessed and Wonderful Wedding...

Cheers... and *Raises a Toast to you*...LOL...

Hi,

Qatar's growth is very rapid in the recent years and i am sure you would definitely get a job. Please dont expect an IT related job here as the industry is nt as familiar, as back in India.

Perhaps you may get into offices, mostly doing contracting and trading. Good Vacuum is here for secretarial positions with good computer skills & Eglish knowledge. You may try in Marketing as well..

Since you have little time and can not complete your arriars, you may learn 'Tally' or lookout for some HR courses that could be usefull. Networking also has good potential.

Wait for some more suggessions in this blog and decide..

All the best.. and a warm welcome to Qatar in advance..
