[Need Help] Replacement of Rented Car Key
I lost the key of a rented car (Mitsubishi Lancer) and the rental company requested me to replace it from the car dealer.
Does anybody have any idea how much would that cost me?
What would happen if I make a replacement just from ordinary key maker? Which maker is the best(most reliable)?
Many thanks for any helping responses
I think it has electronics embedded in it. they started this for 2004 models. So im pretty sure you cant go to a normal key maker. The rental company is supposed to do it themselves. But they will charge you. Argue with them. its their responsibility.

It's a 2005 Lancer, I don't think they have used the chip or identification for it yet.
The rental company asked me to go directly to the dealer (to be accompanied with one of their staff). They didn't accept my suggestion to pay for the new key (and let them take care the replacement). I know it's strange for the renter to go to the dealer and ask for replacement. But I don't want to waste my time arguing.
Regarding the charge (cost for the replacement), do you have any rough idea how much would it be?
One more thing, is it normal that the rental company keeps my passport for 10 days after the renting period is finished? They said it is needed to allow them to check if I have got any fines during the renting period.
I heard they charge about 150QR depending on the car

Most of the latest cars have electronic imbedded in the keys ordinary cut keys wont start the car.
Its the responsibilty of the rental company to get you a new key but they might charge you
