Does anybody know how and what documents are needed to secure
birth certificate for my new born baby boy? When will the government offices resume their offices?
Haven't been online lately-- those newborns are demanding, arent they? Hope you have it all finished by now, but if not, yes, you pick it up at the Health Authority...
SB Design... tell your wife not to be scared away... I've had 2 babies in Doha and if you live in Doha you already know that paperwork here is such an ordeal anyway :) I went to Doha Clinic both times, but this time I was disappointed so I think I would go to Al Ahli if I did it again. You get quite the royal treatment there. Much cheaper than going to most other countries I think. She is welcome to send me a message if she has any specific questions... I think most expat women chose to stay here to have babies now, very few bother to go back home (unless, of course, they are unmarried since it is illegal to have a baby in Qatar if unmarried)
At Al Ahli hospital, which is a very good, popular hospital for giving birth, 9 months of pre-care and a c-section cost us about $5000 US. Do a search over on expatwoman.com on the Qatar chatboard. Loads of info. There's a current thread about getting the baby a passport and birth certificate. The paperwork/process is really not any harder than anything else here.
I used Dr. Rizvi and her team at Al Ahli. Good luck.
I hear the government re-opens on the 26th... but don't take my word for it, hopefully someone else will know.
We just did it... so here's what you do.
You should get paperwork from the hospital the baby was born in, titled "Birth Certificate Request"... Make sure it's all filled out.
Then, if the baby was not born at Hamad Hospital, you have to go to the Hamad Women's Hospital (front desk reception) and request a Hamad number. (a silly step in my opinion, but need to do it)
Take that paperwork to the National Health Authority located next to Lulu on Rayyan Road across the street from Hamad Hospital. You'll have to fumble around a bit since there are about 10 steps to complete here but just keep asking people what you do next and you'll eventually figure it out. You will get one original and as many copies as you want. Keep in mind your kid won't want to have to come back to Qatar to find other copies later on in life!
A week later, you pick up the birth certificate!
And, I see you are American, so you'll want to go on the Embassy website to get the applications for a passport, social security card and a "certificate of birth abroad"... REad the instructions carefully so you bring everything you need... That takes 2 weeks...
THen don't forget to get your company to apply for an RP, you get fined if you take too long.
Feel free to send me a message if you have other questions about the process. WE've done it twice here... :)
