Doha College

Doha college have now introduced a requirement for all families to pay QR10,000 deposit per pupil. This will be refunded (if you remember) when you leave- great, if inflation carries on at present levels and I remain in Doha for a few more years QR10,000 might just buy a meal out in one of the restaurants........

Talking to a random group of parents (including one who owns a school) at a party Thursday night, all were unanimous in their shock and outrage. Particularly when you consider they pressure parents to work as class assisitants - cheaper than hiring more staff. Another example of rampant profiteering due to the supply/demand imbalance? Or a genuine attempt to keep fees as lowa as possible? Who knows as the reasoning behind is not explained.

Other DC parents are equally unhappy (especially with 2 or more kids there). Still, as is the British way, we will just grumble into our beer and do nothing about it!

I suspect not, otherwise my daughter would have sent her kids to ASD and got discount.

I can see the logic in your thinking though.....Hali's Baba and the forty thieves!

That is why my kids don't go there. I seriously wonder if ASD has any connection to Halliburton or it's affiliates?????

iman0493 i just read that you are from the US, the american school has a capitol fee of QR12775! 4 times that of DC but a much nicer school to go with it. Plus 3650 registration + 5oo application and a whopping 45450 tuition fee. Total over QR 62000 a year!!

The capital fee is to upgrade the woeful, outdated facilities at Doha college. We all hate paying it but an upgrade is much needed.

I have not heard about the new fee maybe it is not for existing students. Let's hope the money is used to directly benefit our children, the new principal may have some new ideas????

Sounds like profiteering to me. And who invented the capital charge fee anyway-and what is it for, really? What a scam.

My son started this year (i.e. Sep 2007 in year 7) but I did not pay any QR 10000. I had to pay QR 3000 as capital charge though.

Emgee did not mention whether this ten thousand riyals would be refunded with or without interest. Also I do not understand how parents can be pressured into working as class assitants if they are too busy with real jobs and trying to pay their children's school fees.

It would be very interesting to hear from someone who is in the business of recruiting teachers for Qatari schools.

When has this been introduced? I have one son in DC but I do not have any information about this. I know about QR 3000/ capital charge but QR 10000/ is outrageous. Can you please tell when it has been introduced and when it is to be paid?

I received fee challan for next term a few days back but it didnt have any notice regarding this payment.

doha college is a terrible school full of uninspired teachers. as a child, i think i was given a poor education in that school. I learned more in 1 day of school in england than years at DC.
