Worst Embassy in Qatar?

Ok - your nominations please for the "Most Useless Embassy" in Qatar?

Who should have their little diplomatic flag stuffed up their nostril?
Who forgets who pays their salaries to swan around to cocktail parties?
Who couldn't get care less about the citizens as long as they get to have a shiny car?
Who thinks a visa is a card to go shopping with?

Please Give me reasons.... no more than 300 words ...
thanks a bundle.

Trust me the Egyptian embassy is the worst ever, it have a good location,a huge building, with a huge emtpy hall at all inside , and the place where they serve their citizens is too small. even though there isnt this machine where you take a turn and wait for it so you go and do whatsoever you went for, and you have to pay cash, they didn't heard about the plastic payments before. God Help you fellow Egyptians!!

Easy to criticise and be cynical, less easy to offer praise....so let me do that. I have just replaced my full passport - the process was easy and they turned around the transaction in 2 days, sending me a text telling me that the new passport was ready for collection. It wouldnt have happened THAT quickly in the UK and it certainly wont under the new "send the application to Dusseldorf" rules that come into effect next week- but for now, thanks British Embassy - job well done.

I applied for visa last week of February and until now they dont reply. When I call they say: only 24 hours. I submit my complete documents and they told me to come back the next day. The next day i came, they return my money and told to me that after 15 days, i will receive their reply. Now everytime I call, they keep on saying there's no reply from Lebanon. Why they are treating me like this, just because Im from SE Asian. They are coward, they can't say if its approve, deny or they throw my documents! F*!k them!

The Nepali Embassy - just like the country ..... absolute chaos. Most Embassy's have forgotten the remit of an overseas representative body towards their citizens, as indicated above - I'm suggesting that the Embassy of Nepal situated in Abu Hamour never knew what their role was in the first place!! Simply awful.

I am British and my wife is Algerian, in order for her to obtain a visa to the UK we have to go through the normal process of applying and providing all the documentation necessary and of course there's the outrageous fee of 450QR (aprox) and all the paperwork.

What I find strange is that the French Embassy does not charge my wife and only asks for my passport and a work certificate, no need to prove anything and best of all, they do not charge her anything for the VISA and they have her a FULL year multiple entry visa...all of this is because she's married to a European Citizen. What do you think about that?

BUT, the Canadian embassy in Kuwait is actually amazing (opposite the topic here, I know) - they actually go out of their way to help you - calling you and emailing you immediately to update you on the progress, letting you know if there is a cheaper way to do something, giving you advice on handle things quickly, and they even SAVED me money by calling me to advise me I made a mistake (which they didn't have to do at all!). I REALLY hope that if they put a Canadian embassy here, that the Kuwait staff train them here!!!

the british embassy workers have a snotty attitude ? Why, people in Britain don't ??? Some **** in a famous dept store in London , the interviewer told me ''you can't work here'' ... for whatever reason i don't know .....been here 12 years, people are snotty and feel superior to others, they all feel specialist and qualified, while they are not worthy to wipe my shoes. Never met any local worth a friendship.Goverment gives british people too much importance. MY husband was planning to put the kids in a 'british run school and I said NO WAY, I don't want to have anything to do with them ever again. For the worng attitude against me, these anorexic ladies who interview, should go to prison and throw away the key after been tried for discrimination. The law say ''everybody has the right to work'' .... not ''only anorexic women can work in cosmetics'' .... Excuse me, I'm not defending our embassy here, but in main forum,in respect to the posted subject, I'd be ashamed to post our own embassy as worst. We may have some issues between Filipino expats & the PE system here, but I guess only Filipinos understand and we discussed it in our own forum. As per my personal experience, lack of communication & lack of available information or providing wrong information to the visitor triggers chaos & misunderstandings.

.

Embassy staff must cater visitors with all important information regarding visas (all types), requirements for document attestation, passport renewal etc

.

Visitor's responsibility is to be prepared well enough before entering any embassy by getting first hand info on phone or website inorder to avoid any delay and wastage of time/money

the thread are for people who had dealt or who deals with a lot of embassies because "comparing" or judging which is the "worst" is subjective. One must deal with at least three embassies to say that one is the worst! But most deals with one embassy (their own) and what do you expect, of course, to vent their ire in the worst manner and say the worst experienced they had with their own embassy. Let us just say, what is bad experience in our embassy maybe better or worse to the other embassies? How to compare?

The title of this thread is - "Worst Embassy in Qatar" and the originator Oryx invites us to give our reasons why!! No mention of constructive criticism only .........critcism!! The devil is in the detail here - "Worst" and why - that tends to indicate that contributions will be of a negative nature!! Actually if you want me to be constuctive , how about this........erm, the current set up is crap!! Employ an administrator who knows what the hell he/she is doing, round up the current staff and .............................. "motivate" them...in whatever way he/she feels will work.

I was going to say that too- one of the easiest and most friendly embassies out of the ones I've been to so far.

Very punctual and very matter of fact in their dealings - pay 66 Qrs , they mention a date ,which is usually the same day or the next at most and voila you have a visa.

Kudos to them

About the worst , probably is the German embassy- which makes people wait in the sun , just to get the forms.

have its own positive and negative characteristics. Better discuss the negative in constructive ways. Who knows? maybe they change for the better? Unless you are a frequent traveller to many nations, well, you can compare embassies, but for this thread, it will be more of bashing your own as most deals with their own embassies.

I have always had very good experience at Indian Embassy. People should remember that they are trying to cope up with the kind of numbers which no other Embassy has to face in all their offices in GCC, put together. Agreed, when you go there its crowded, but then there are a lot on Indians here. Instead you can approach ICC, which is pretty deserted at all times, to get your work done. With the kind of facility they have and with the kind of numbers they cater, I feel Indian Embassy guys are doing a great job.

The Indian Embassy stinks the diplomatic place out - what a shambles - its an absolute disgrace!!!

1... Visas to visit your miserable country - Website says - get there for 8am start - I am there at 0730 - there is already a queue of "the knowlegable" - staff start to arrive at 0810 - window eventually opens at 0830 - staff all behind the window having a chat, cuppa tea - "what do you mean there are people waiting... theyre only customers - they can wait...!!!!!" I bang on the window to try and illicit some semblance of responsibility - all that does is harden their resolve!! Theyre a canny bunch these Indian clerical workers - theyre not going to be intimidated by some meaningless Brit - they have what I want and they know it!!! A mexican stand off ensues!! Finally with the weight of support that is lended by an irrate Qatari national, the staff condescent to start their purile duty.

In true Indian fashion, there is no urgency, no order, no procedure, no air freshener!!!! - I dont know what it looks like "upstairs" in the ivory tower, but down where the groundlings like those of us who need a bloody visa it is as much of a shambles as Mumbai airport is..... dont get me started on that by the way!!!! Im sure we didnt leave the country like this in 1946 - what a mess they have made!!

The Indian Embassy in Qatar is much like India itself - the website is slick and shiny and promises much, but the reality of the Embassy or the country flatters to deceive and is frankly a bloody mess - no wonder they all want to leave the placeand go overseas!!

Nothing can beat French Embassy in getting the trophy for worst Embassy. You have to face to realise. The gaurd at the Embassy decides who will get the Visa (he allows people inside at his will).Perhaps the visa officer or French ambassador may not be that powerful or exercising so much power. It is general perception that asian & middle east embassy is ineffecient & disorganised. You must go to French Embassy to realise that this is wrong. You have to que outside embassy in hot summer and some body behind will get paperstick token from the security to get visa. Disgusting !!!

Have you heard anything like this before!!!

USA embassy,

I have had some horrible experiences with them not just in Qatar but in various other European countries.

A couple of years ago my husband (who is Qatari) was renewing his student visa to the USA and they decided not to recognize his University (it is a very well known school) saying they no longer issued US Student Visas to that school, even though he had previous visa there and there are other Qatari students there. WTF??

So he goes back everyday after each time they tell him he needs to talk to this person, who tells him he needs to talk to someone else and so on. Finally they issue him a visa, and he went back to school. They issued him the wrong visa and he got arrested immediately in the US immigration and detained indefinately without anyone being contacted (gotta love the Patriot Act).

Well, after two weeks they let him in the US on his old expired visa. After The US Embassy told him "oh no, of course we gave you the right visa" when clearly they did not. Then they tell him he has to go back to Doha to get it fixed, but they might not be able to give him a new one as they don't give them to every student.

I would also like to say this has nothing to do with the Ambassadors, as they are close friends with him and his family and are very nice. Unfortunately they just seem to be figure heads and there was nothing they could do claiming it was the visa people who mixed everything up.

So, I am not really partial to the US Embassy.

Also, my Father is a US Diplomat and he actually had to take one of his bosses to court because they had embezzled over $2 million US Dollars from funds that were supposed to go to the aid of the country they were in. It took 8 years, but they finally just let the crook "retire" and no one ever got the money back, and the US Embassy never gave out that aid money.

don't laugh! We had an escape route planned through to Kuwait in case the Iranians got too close for comfort. I don't know if it was through Mutla Ridge - I just sort of thought we would charge through a hedge somewhere. sigh. Such is youth. The tracers were pretty though. And I used to wave back at the troops in the Iraqi helicopter gun ships as they flew over the swimming pool. Poor sods - just used to hope they made it home. (although having seen us in the pool maybe they prayed they wouldn't!)

We drew the line at jumping into the trenches which were dug around our houses, though, after someone saw another ex-pat (not mentioning the nationality) was seen leaping into one and causing a panic, only to find out he went there to cr9p!

The award will be delivered to the suite of the 5* Hotel where the ambassador has been staying for the last 6 months, because it took him that long to find a villa to use as an Embassy building! I don't know how long it will take him to move from the 5* hotel suite to this new Embassy building, because it obviously has to be fully furnished first! What a waste of taxpayers' money!

French Embassy :

for no proper queue line on the visa application section. They also need a megaphone while calling the names of the applicant or they could hire an assistant who can speak loudly on that seems to be mini microphone well they can actually use that but at least put a speaker on the receiving area. Other than this I have no complain.

My embassy (Philippines) I came there for the first time to renew my passport and I'm quite satisfied never experience any malpractice until I read that thread about Gabriella.

The worst, for me, is the British Embassy (i'm a Brtitish citizen) but my best friend's wife was trying to join him for a week in the UK as he's left for work. The embassy staff asked her to renew her passport because her country came out with a new one, she got the new passport went back they laughed at her and said: come back on Sunday when she went back, they simply told her we're not giving you a visa, not fair. the poor thing really wanted to go see her inlaws she never met them.

It's It’s the Egyptian embassy. Just few months back, they threatened the Egyptian living in Doha about being legally sued and tracked if they talked about Egypt in public forums, this was announced in Qatar daily newspaper!

India embassy at its best when it comes to bureaucracy and red tape no other can take this top spot

I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm here

Than a whole truck load when I'm gone
