Hi all,

Moving from the UK with my wife. I am coming first and then she will follow later. Could anyone point me in the direction of accomadation. Not looking for anything huge as it is just the two of us. Ideally would like a compound. Have an allowance of 10k............any info would be great

Cheers all

PS it is very very cold here in blighty at the moment if anyone is missing the UK

with all the comments on QL about what you can and can't get for your QRs, I went to a very nice compound today and, although it has a waiting list (don't they all) nothing was over QR15,400 which included the service charge (cheapest was a 2 bed for QR10,560). Clubhouse, gym, billiards, table tennis, 3 swimming pools, 2 saunas, kids play area, squash courts, badminton court etc etc even school transportation!!! It was a nice little compound, nice size villas.

I have to say I've visited other people's villas and you could probably fit my 2 bed apartment into their ground floor with space left over, but who needs that much space.

What is all the 'Qatar accommodation costs a fortune' stuff? OK I haven't done more research yet, but the Manager at the compound which had 2/3 bed villas also told me of 2 bed apartments they had elsewhere which were QR7,500-8,000. I've not seen them, but they are obviously around and I honestly didn't think there was anything in Doha cheaper than our 2 bed apartment! Now THAT was a surprise.

I say you could get a three bed room apartment (if not near the center) or a small villa.

Just saw a 2 bedroom villa in a compound for 9.5k I forgot the address though. Looked very nice. I'll try to get the contact details.

The haven gives sound advice :) Placing an advert can really help.

My advice if you call a real estate company is to ask them for the landlords number to speak to him. Then tell him you'll rent direct :P Saves a bit.

You can also check Classified Ads(for Rent) in Qatar Living, Gulf Times Website. For QR10,000 you can either get a flat in a building with services (pool, gym...) or a small flat in a compound (limited numbers. It's better to get a furnished flat for a short period to start with and then have your time to look around.

Good luck

10K will not get you anything in the compound. For 3 bedroom independent villa you will have to fork out min QR 15.000

PS: I am going back to the UK next week ... can you chase away the cold for me pls?
