Car repair shop shame/fame list
I would like to warn people against using the services of a Japan Auto garage and used car buyer and seller. They are located at the end of Salwa Rd. just after the turn for the industrial area.
I left my car there over Eid and asked for specific work to be done on it. None of it was done, and instead lots of unnecessary and difficult to prove work was performed. Examples: clean air filter and check sparkplug (one)-75 Riyals, check and adjust brakes-300 Riyals, change the transmission oil (not the filter!)-180 Riyals, lubricate steering and suspension (a few joints at best)-100 Riyals! The brakes had recently been replaced so no "checking and adjusting" (especially at that price) was necessary and the other jobs were priced much higher than the dealer would even charge.
When I noticed the transmission oil was a liter too high, the owner remarked that too high is better than too low and didn't seem too concerned at the shoddy workamnship. I had to insist on removing the excess as he was telling me it was OK to drive like that. I wonder if he would have fixed the leaks resulting from the much higher pressure in the system!
I realize some of this is my fault as I shouldn't have left the decisions in his hands, but the place came recommended by a few people who have been using him. I guess that's what makes it even more frustrating. Regardless, stay away from this place unless you want to be taken for a ride.
BTW, are there other places in Doha you've had similarly bad experience with? Or maybe you know a place you swear by. Please let us know here.
I've had some pretty good luck with mysore garage on street 48 gate 18

I agree with Stealth. We do most of our services with Tayseer or Woqod. Never go to the garage down the industrial area / salwa road.
Now watch these two videos and think; if this can happen in US with such tough laws in support of customer services, what can't be done anywhere else in the world.
Don't worry. In my life, I have never seen an honest car mechanic in any country.
Lol. Not him. He was educated in the US and speaks English pretty well. Most of his clients are also expats so he has enough daily English practise.
Maybe he didnt understand what yu told him.
I realise that. He was supposed to change the sparkplugs, control arm bushes and see if anything needed to be done before the upcoming annual inspection. He did nothing I asked him to. He changed the oil even though the last change was clearly marked on the windshield-it was done less than a 1000 km before (he replaced the old oil change sticker with his own so he knew he was doing it too early!) He then charged me for things which are usually part of the oil change seperately: cleaning of air filter and greasing of suspension and steering parts (extra 150 Riyals)!
for what work did you give the car?
most of this work you coud've finished in a few hours if you had gone to Teyseer service center.
just bringing this to the top again
