Boyscout Eagle Project

Hi everyone on Qatar Living,

I've been a Boyscout for around 4-5 years and I'm nearing towards my final rank (Eagle). For those of you who don't know, its the highest rank obtainable in the organization. The rank holds numerous requirements, but the biggest task is making a service project that benefits the community. Living in Qatar for three years now I've always felt greatly sorry for the Asian laborers. After recently watching the "Blood, Sweat and Tears" report from Aljazeera I've decided I want to do a project that will benefit the mistreated Asian laborers in Qatar.

I'm seeking advice on how to start such a project and I'm also asking if anyone has ideas that what my project should consist of and also focus on. For example I was thinking of making a fundraiser to provide clothes, food, and telephone cards (so they can call their families).
Phone numbers of places where I can I can get more information of getting such a project off the ground would also be appreciated.

Some weeks ago, there was a post (with a very enthusiastic and sizeable response) to organise something similar under the auspices of QL.

Whatever happened to that?

Thanks for all the help and advice! I'll do my best to stay out of trouble and I'll make a new post on how the project is coming along in the following weeks.

You could try the Nepalese Embassy as well. I know they have programs up and running for their countrymen.

Getting involved in social campaigns in some parts of the world is an acceptable past-time for a young man, but that might not be the case here.

Contact your embassy, Qatar Charity, and Qatar Red Crescent and see whether you can get involved with local charity campaigns. These will have been approved by the government, and you'll be able to help people without risking getting into trouble.
