GULF TIMES NEWS!!!!

FINANCE Minister HE Yousef Kamal said yesterday he expected the rising rents to stabilise within the next 12 months, “based on indications of the first two quarters of this year”. The minister was talking to a gathering at the Green Tent where important topics are discussed during the holy month of Ramadan.
Quoting figures gathered by his ministry, he said rents increased only by 1.9% in the first quarter of 2007 and went down by 1.6% in the second, “pointing towards stabilisation of house rents, before coming down even further.”
The minister said rising house rents constituted 19.9% of the consumer index and “solving such an issue would be the first step towards fighting high inflation.”
He said rents went up by 168% in 2006 in comparison to 2001 due to shortage of residential units and the increasing cost of building materials and land.
He said the government is currently building some 6,000 residential units which would be ready by 2009 and 1,000 pre-fab units annually which would be available for “reasonable rents”.
Kamal said the government had stopped all demolitions for two years and a new law governing rents will be issued. He said the law would take into consideration all the components including the landlords and tenants

Is your property gov't own? On your thread, the demolition halt is covered only, i guess, for gov't own property.
