Qatar Airways ground staff

Odessa
By Odessa

I have accepted a position as Ground Staff with Qatar Airways, and will be moving in a few weeks.
I would like to know if anybody can tell me about the ground crew accommodation, i.e the location, are the apartments self contained (ie oven, fridge, full-furniture), where is the closest laundry, is there a gym or pool in the vicinity, is transportation easliy accessable?
I will be in code 3, so shared accommodation. I appreciate any assistance or pictures so that I can prepare for my move.

Also, does anybody have any opinions on gyms in the areas for western females? Especially regarding aerobic classes, as I know it isn't so popular in the region.

Sounds like they want you and are looking for a training session and placement for you for an airport or travel office job. That can take some time.

First of all you define what is your salary package and are you hiring as a CRA, (Customer Relation Agent) if yes than you will be under the flag of QAS, that is worst department in the QR group, you feel you work in the jail or Army base, lots of orders and lots of unprofessional management, very few peoples have good experience but they work under unprofessional, how learn from 0 to here. Now back to your question, yes they provide sharing accommodation if you have grade 03 or 04. only grade 5 and above have single room if they using company accommodation. inside the apartment they provide you washing machine, Oven, fridge, dining tables and chairs, cloth locker, bed, AC in the rooms.

Cabin crew male and female get free transport but other all staff dont have free transport.

I think before any body join that company they must be think to join worst company.

Colt45, the airport in Manila does it. I was told it had nothing to do with the competence of the passengers, but rather that it was to cut down on bag theft.

Hi Think-twice,

Welcome to Doha. I think the name of that bldg is something starting with N, don't remember, 'll check and tell. And many employees are living in it already.

Hello shreeya ...

For the new rented building in Al Mansoura that you mention, do you know if their staff have started moving in? Also, is your area close to QR headquarters building/airport road?

I will come in mid-Sept so wonder if I have the luck of staying there ...

P.S.: QR code 3 = grade 3?

Thanks.

Hi! just ignore these yobs in here, they have no manners and way too much time on their hands ;o)

Aerobics: I try to go quite regularly to classes. The classes at The Ramada Cabana Club will resume, I believe, around mid September. That's what they told me, anyway. However, my friend takes the aerobic classes at al Massa and she has informed me that, although aerobics will continue during Ramadan (c. 12 sept - 11 oct) they will be held at 8.00 p.m. instead of their usual times.

I suspect Cabana Club will be the same.

Hope you enjoy your new job and life in Doha.

Odessa,

Qatar Airways have rented a beautiful building for its staff in my area (Al Mansoura). Apartments are so beautiful...I just envy it...Apts are fully furnished and located in busy area where you can get each and every thing say grocery, food, laundry etc. Don't know about gym / pool..

For Colt,

If you read correctly, I said Now days, only a handful of airports have staff matching your bag with your bag tag... those practices have been long done with in modern airports which accomodate huge passenger traffic.

That means that no Major Airport does that any longer and from where did you get that I said a handfull of staff identify the bag, beats me.

Well to answer your question of 1 belt for multiple flights, lemme ask you simple math and logic. If you have 5 belts and 20 flights coming withing 30 mins, how many flights can 1 belt accomodate?.... Besides maybe at some point in time there could be a belt unservicable... who knows?

No I am not pissed off, just clearing the air of confusion here... :-D

"Airports don't do a bag match for arriving passenger because they expect you to be GROWN UP enough to identify your bag yourself. Yes you do have the occassional mix up of other passengers taking your bag, especially when they are similar looking."

---> I jst answered your previous post ... Dont get so pissed off. You did said a handful of staff identify the tag on the luggage or something like that. No offence intended. We always identify our bag before we take it out of the carousel, but how far Qatar Airways / Doha Airport will take responsibility if somebody else taking your bag in purpose?

And also can you explain why they used 1 belt for so many flights??? I think any other international airport use 1 belt for 1 flight to avoid confusion.

Have you accepted the offer with Qatar Airways (QR) or Qatar Aviation Services (QAS)?

From what I know, they provide fully furnished accommodations to their staff either you are with QR or QAS. They are much stricter on groundstaff female employees with "deadlines". QR groundstaff deadline is 12 AM and I think for QAS its 10 PM. Deadline basically means you have to return to the accommodation before the times specified else you are reported to the higher authorities.

As for the location, they have quite a few accommodations rented out. One is bang opposite the airport, the other in Al Sadd and a newer one in Al Najma area. So the questions that you have asked for laundry etc depends where they decide to allot your apartment. Generally their buildings are in areas that have shops catering to all of your basic requirements.

Wish you all the best and welcome to Doha!

Tell me which airport besides Jakarta (like you mentioned) does a bag match on arrival passengers exiting the airport.... lemme answer that for you... not any major airport.

Doha airport cant cope with the flights ... i noticed 1 belt being used by several flights arriving in the same time. No wonder the bag all mix up and chaos.

And no one check wether you taking out the right back ... back in Indonesia ... there is somebody on the way out checking your luggage tag that sticked in your ticket matching with the number on the luggages. Thats way you cant take out someone's else bag.

Odessa ... most hotels have a class for aerobic, or do check Al Massa gym in Ramada junction, they have exercises class for ladies.
