Hi all,

I'm an Indian, currently in US on job visa.I'm married and have a kid of 6 months. My company is processing our green card here.

I have been offer job from QP that says a
basic salary :14-17000QR
transport allow:1000QR
housing allow :11000QR
plus all allowances(education allowance,interest free car loan,45000QR as Furniture Grant,Medical and Dental care,Life Insurance,Air Tickets for whole family).

Our's is a middle class family. Here I can save 3500$ monthly. I'm confused....Shall I accept this offer or not? What about the cost of living there? I have heared there rent is high.....what about other expenses like food,water etc. I hope someone will help me.

Thanks and regards

I'm from Malaysia and currently in the mid of nego an offer with bank in Qatar,they are offering lump sum amount of QR 25K per month plus medical coverage. Would this amount be sufficient to survive and to save QR 12k per month?

Can anyone provide me with tentative package for IT project manager position?

Thanks a million...

For a family, you have to cost your employer more than 35,000.QR/year for [ salary, housing, transportation, medical, trips home, etc. ], before you can save any money for yourself. See my previous threads. You do the math.

If you're currently saving USD 3,500./month, please stay home, and enjoy freedom, as some suggested.

What is the offered salary by the way, 14000 or 17000 ? Not clear in your intro.

Hi usqatar,

I am interest to know, as a matter of fact your expenditure each month. First of all, in other for you to even consider this offer seriously, it has to be better than what you are getting now. But let's assume you are getting the same pay in US or in Qatar.

I get more than that in Singapore, and given that I don't pay for my house and my car anymore, I can't even save anything close to USD 3500 a month, which is SGD 5,250.

With the higher cost of living in US, You must be staving your family! to asave that amount each month....hahhah....

no offense.. just an observation....

I find it very hard to believe though that he can save 3500 US a month.

Especially since he's getting so many benefits in Doha. That would mean he's getting over 8,000 pounds a month in the US

"I don't need any maths lessons. I am very perfect in all calculations. You people are simply trying to stop someone geting a better oppertunity ... This is not fair ...."

---> will you promise the original poster to top up his saving if he can save USD 3500 in Doha???

Have not you read the reply given by me yesterday? Please go thru it and then decide yourself. I am also an Indian and I have given you exactly the same reply from Indian point of view. Please go thru it too.

Khanaq needs a lesson in math.

a)you will struggle saving more than 3500$ per month, in fact you might save less than that here;

b)you may struggle to find a house up to the standard you might be used to in the US with 11000QR here;

c)you may struggle with working environment/culture here which is definitely different from what you are used to (and I worked in the US so I know);

d)sorry to say this but as an Indian you could feel discriminated at times here, despite being a professional etc;

e)if this is not enough you are about to get a Green card. You really want to go for the Qatari experience? Get the Green card first!

again this is just IMHO

My question is why would you want to change your present situation to come to Qatar, a country who is now at the beginning of devloping an infrastructure, with laws which have been introduced and not yet put into practice, highly dangerous driving conditions where people are dying daily on the roads (pedestrains as well as drivers), hospitals where you are never sure you will get the proper and exact diagnosis and often can't find your medical records and might die as a result, where there are multitude of schools but the education might not meet your childrens present standard, where you need an exit permit signed by your company/sponsor every time you want to leave, where your bathroom has hot and no cold cold running water during the summer (depending on where you live),where leasing a home is subject price hikes of 100% (depending on your contract)which are considered ok and reasonable when your leasing contract ends, where your children can't play outside in the street any time they want (almost impossible because of the heat) where there are no proper labour laws, and last of all if you are sacked from your position (God forbid) can have a two year ban and can't enter the country for a new job within that time unles you receive an NOC from your current employer?

Considering all these points I would say "Welcome to Qatar"

The point is youre saving 3500 dollars a month.

Obviously if you're making more it's great.

At the end of the day there are three factors to consider.

Is the location important to you?

(You might like the area or feel there is more room for promotion or cost of living might be lower)

Are you going to go to a better/easier job?

Go where you will get the best possible deal.

You are getting great Housing and Transport Allowance.

I'm a Qatari National and I think that Salary is great, especially since you have allowances.

You are basically getting almost everything fully paid for!

Yes rent is high, but with that rent allowance, you're getting almost 80% of a nice accommodation. Or you can find a place which is much cheaper.

Guys, when you get housing, insurance, medical, extra tickets, education, dental, transport, furniture allowance, AND interest free loans if requested, there is no doubt in my mind that it is a great deal.

I will NEVER find all of that in the UK unless I get lucky. That's why I gave up a job with Sony London to come back to Qatar.

Your offer is about what everyone get over here with QP.

6 yrs ago ... QP give an allowance QR 6500 which allow you to live in a compound like beverly hills. But with QR 11000 nowadays you will struggle to get 3 bedroom independent villa.

If you happy with where you are now and you can save that much ... i would suggest you to stay where you are.

ABout the other living expenses, it been discussed so many times, you should search and have a read around. But at the moment the 'search' button is missing.
