Business Attire for Expat/Non-Qatari Women
Could anyone advise on appropriate business attire for a western (USA) woman travelling to Doha for business? Are suits with trousers acceptable? What about skirts? Do they need to be of a certain length? Also, is it necessary for a western businesswoman to cover her head?
Finally - I will have one day free for activity/sightseeing. Is it appropriate for a woman to sightsee by herself or with a guide? Does anyone have suggestions for activities? I particularly enjoy markets and anything local.
Thank you.
I am sure you will find it a unique visit.
Keep me posted..:))
Have fun

I just didn't know what to expect. I haven't been to the Middle East before . . . I work in a creative field, so over here, it's pretty much anything goes. I'm usually among the more conservatively dressed, but I wasn't sure what that would mean by Qatari standards. Now that I'm sorted with the attire, I'm excited about visiting a new place!
Are you more comfortable now? you probably were shaken for a while, hope the info was useful.
Most of us been there before, so kinda know how it feels..:)

Thanks so much for the help and comments. I was having trouble finding information.
Anything that glorifies you, (some wear tents, some show cleavage, some show legs)
I know for guys. it is cotton shirts and a tie with dress pants (no jeans)
basically, its the same thing what you wear being western...simple rule, avoid too much skin exposure and you will be fine.
I wear trousers, slacks and suits, (simple lady shirt inside top it off with a blazer)...you will be fine with the safe cut, no plunging, not too much body hugging (or if you will do, be prepared with a jacket or blazer to cover it up)..hope this guide you..:)

Pantsuits are totally acceptable. Avoid short skirts ( knee high and above). Below knees or longer is preferable)
Short (1/2 or 3/4) or long sleeves. Nothing transparent beneath your jacket. Law cuts not acceptable (just about any other business dress code rules elsewhere in the world).
No head cover required. I work in a very conservative institution in Doha, on the client side, that's what I wear.
Good luck with your trip.
