house maids

Can we get house boy / maid on hourly basis?
Is it difficult to get Indian maid?
Do we have to hire them from agency? Or like in UAE, there are maids on somebody's sponsorship but they work for anyone on hourly / monthly basis
what is typical hourly rate?
Thanks

In Saudi, the average cost of full time live in maid ( in 2011 ! ) is around 1500 SR , and this is about the same for a full time driver ( you provide the car! )

Hourly paid is pretty common on the compound where we live, average cost is around 20SR per hour. We have a lot of maids telephoning us to see if we need any maids to work for us so there are always some looking for extra work, I would have though this would be the same there? Nes pas?

Thats what tight people pay live in maids, we pay far more than that for ours!

I think its illegal for housemaids to work somewhere else??

500qr a month only for a live-in maid?? Wow, I thought it was more like 1000-1200 a month.

We have a maid who comes once a week. She is sponsored by someone else, and comes to us on her day off. 5 hours for 120qr.

A live-in housemaid/cleaner/nanny is much cheaper than an hourly-wage. If you have a spare room, I'd recommend sponsoring a live-in housemaid through an Agency. I've heard Indian housemaids are no longer available. But Sri Lanka and Indonesia are available. Salary is QR500/month but the agency fee is high (QR6000). Per-hour can run QR1200 if you hire her for 6 hours per day.

Both are correct, however I suggest you get a maid from an Agency as they will be held responsible for any 'runaways'.

Some agencies will also check to make sure that everything is fine.

Sponsorship can only be done by nationals and the number of a certain nationality are 'capped'. As far as I know, Indians and Pakistanis are capped already.

However getting an hourly paid is not usual.

You would usually pay a FIXED amount to a maid that will come to your home and clean and leave.
