Giving something back to Qatar

boyaati
By boyaati

I am a professional guy from a developed country, currently working in Doha. I am very keen to do any form of charity or social work for any organization in Qatar during my leisure time. I am doing it out of passion for fellow human and giving back something to Qatar in a way.

Please do not hesitate to PM or do let me know if there’s any organization I can offer my help.

Thank You

It's nice for you to be opening your heart for charity work. I admire you just for that.

I am also pro-charity but sometimes I really do feel bad when people just accept charity and DEPEND on charity... and when there's no more charity, they go back to their old ways. There's this one project that I support though, that gives a new meaning to charity.

http://www.gawadkalinga.org/

Gawad Kalinga helps the poor by providing them with shelter, but not just that. First, they help you build your home -- and in payment, you have to help others build their home, as sweat equity. SO that you learn to love your home because you built it with your sweat, of course with many others helping you out too. And before you get to live in your new house, they make you undergo a series of values formation modules, where lives are uplifted away from the slums mentality, and wives and children are taught livelihood programs, husbands are taught the value of headship in the family, children are given educational activities, etc.

For me, this is really a good project. Because you don't just give fish to the needy, as they say, you teach them to fish for their own too. And you take them out of the slums by giving them a good home, plus you teach them how to live in a good neighborhood.

This project has gotten so much support worldwide already -- with top companies pledging help, and top shot executives quitting full time jobs just to help out. But it's still never enough to alleviate poverty in the Philippines.

Boyaati, sorry if you're just referring to helping out in Doha coz this is really not for here -- but for my fellow Filipinos, you may want to explore and help out our countrymen through Gawad Kalinga too -- any which little way we can.

I think it is an excellent idea to give something back. I also get annoyed with the "stupid" blogs people write. Don't you have anything better to do?

Going back to the fact that you want to do something. Well there are a lot of organizations that could use help. As were mentioned before ROTA, Qatar Charity but there are amny more. What would you like to do? What are you good at? Advise me and maybe I can give you an idea geared to your liking.

Karin, we're on the same page. The passage here from my blog is just part of the story. =) Cause I felt frustrated that people here have a hard time opening up to friendship so I realized that maybe they had to protect themselves from being hurt later on. =)

Going back to topic, booyati, I think Qatar Charity is a good organization. But the guys above are right, even if you're not a member, there are still ways you can help on your own.

there are many ways of doing it boyaati e.g. respect the counrty's culture, be a disciplined driver, dont loiter etc. while if you opt for monetary help just check the organization first if they are legitimate.

@direkjap: kabayan sorry to differ but i have more quality friends than shallow relationships because i keep it that way. Nothing is permanent on earth people come and go! when time has come that someone dear has to leave yes you'll be hurt but the memories would always be in your heart and it's worth it! It shouldnt stop us from giving ourselves 100% because of fear of eventually losing them.

Thanks for citing my blog, knoxcollege. While I believe that people here tend to put a "firewall" with their relationships between friends or co-workers, I still think that this shouldn't be a reason not to do acts of charity. If you feel that joining an organization might get too personal for you, there are other ways of helping. I recently donated blood to the Red Crescent and I would love to donate again if I see their van parked outside Villagio. I hope you can work out ways on how you can help too =) Take care =)

Before contributing to any charity, a google search may be in order to investigate the financiers and beneficiaries.

Qatar Charity is the right one, because they are doing lot of things both in Qatar and internationally. Whenever I will go to Lulu and all I will keep some money to put in the Qatar charity box. You can also do like indirectly or contact them for guidance.

A bitter fact about the country where we are living

"Here, people stay for only one reason: to work. Without the oil, nobody would ever dare come here. And since most people here are foreigners, you would be apt to keep things temporary. Portable radios, DVD players and laptop computers. Inexpensive furniture, disposable wares, mid-priced cars. Lots of acquaintances, a dozen shallow friendships, and very few good friends. The less attached you are, the less hurt you'll be when people leave. And in this place, they do leave."
