I'm interested to hear from dog owners how they find it in Doha. Are there popular places to walk dogs? Are there any restrictions as to where you can and can't take them? And has anybody brought a dog out from the UK and had issues/problems?
many places to walk the dogs but its so hot they dont seem to mind! we brought our border collie out here from the uk and he adapted really well! he loves the beach like crazy its his favorite place!
Since living out here we have acquired another two dogs a saluki and a husky - both rescue.
Xena is right if you can wait till your out here that would be much nicer - sadly qatar is full of doggys desperate for a home and the street dogs make the best pets - dogs in the uk have a better chance of getting rehomed than dogs out here - just a thought
I bring my dog for walk oftenly to the cornishe, harbour side, there are few people. But one year ago, we brought her to the cornishe, near sheraton, and than one Qatari man came to us, and told us to bring the dog away, because it is not allowed here, although there are no symbol which does not allow dogs there. Many people just simply don't like dogs. Soo sad...:(
before you get an new baby... Unfortunately there are lots of doggies and kitties waiting for new homes here.
Certain people see a cute puppy, buy it and a few months later decide that they are no longer prepared for the effort of owning a pet and literally dump them. It's very sad...
I made a difficult decision to rehome my GSD in SA after I got here. I was preparing to bring him out when a friend asked if they could take him as they wanted a trained adult and not a puppy... Best move I could have made for him, he is in a brilliant home.
Lucky for the puppy I have since acquired. Korin, his 8 brothers and sisters and mom were dumped in the desert a few days before they were born...
Thanks Xena. We are actually going out later today to find our "baby" as my wife and daughter won't be joining me for a year until exams are finished nex summer, but they are desperate for a new dog since our old faithful passed away a few moths ago. I just wanted to make sure that it was ok to bring pets out before we committed. From what I have read on here the answer is YES!
Thanks again

Thanks Jasmine, that is good advice. I'll certainly research Qatar pet relocators. I was also after comments on how people find walking dogs here. Are there dog friendly places to let them have a good run or do you have to keep them on the lead all the time?

I brought my dog out from the uk last October and had no problems. We used Qatar Airways as they are the only direct flight, it cost 1,700 pounds. The flight crate was quite cheap, I can't remember where I got it but Darren at Harnwick Freight gave me their number and organised the flight. The crate was 130 pounds for the largest size. The customs men were not overjoyed to see him arrive and I am so glad that we used Doha Vet meet and greet service, an arabic speaker is a must. I didn't know then about Qatar Pet Relocators, everyone says they offer a great service. Just make sure you have loads of photocopies of everything, especially rabies blood test. He seems happy enough here and has adjusted to the climate well. I don't live in Doha so not sure about how it is. Hope that helps

This is a sad fact that happens often.
Good Luck with the new addition

Go to the Groups section at the top of the page, and click on the Animal and Pet care group. There will be answers to some of your questions.
Poppy is the facilitator for Qatar Pet Relocators, so you might want to contact her.
Unfortunately there aren't many places to walk dogs, but we hope to change that soon...
But bring your baby... it will help you adjust to the new way of life a bit easier.
