Shipping to Qatar

Hello all

New memeber to Qatar Living and soon to be new to living in Qatar!

To that end, I would really appreciate any advice you all might be able to offer me about getting one's stuff there.

I am moving in August (from Oregon) and need to ship myself a few boxes (books and such that I will be needing to teach with) in advance of my getting there. I was wondering what are some of the best ways to send stuff like this? I have a fairly tight allowance for shipping, and am looking for the most economical way to do this. I am thinking ocean freight/container, but have no idea whom I should look at for quotes, etc. Any and all advice anyone can offer would be MOST appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for all the responses. This is great.

I will look into all suggested options. As I only have a few more weeks here in Oregon to figure this stuff out, I need to find a solution soon...so thanks for all the insights. Hopefully, someday I can return the favor.

Again thanks to you all

Make sure the shipping service you use has adequate clearing at this end. Your books will probably have to pass through the censors.

Hi,

We're moving from Houston and after my research I found ocean freight to be the most economical.

Since you just have a couple of boxes you might want to try Tober Group inc. They have something called "baggage service" for small consignments. You might want to look into it:

Have not used their freight service but here's the link -

Office is off Salwa Road.

As per my experience use FEDEX, they are the best. I have used them couple of times, always reliable, on time and ifyou don't get their claimed service you can always claim for damages.

One inside information if you bargain with them they will be happy to give you a special discount. I used their service in 2000 to send some documents to U.S. and they charges me Qatari Riyals 125. I used their service last month and they told me that the price now is 160. I showed them the old receipts and they said Q.R. 125 for me only. They didn't even check the dates.

Never use DHL. DHL sucks big time.

Do not mail with US Postal Service. Last 3 packages mailed to me took 3 months each! Found out the last one sat in New Jersey for 9 weeks and then only took 1 week to get over here! Now we will be using Aramex.
