Buying electronics from this site

By russbilbey

Has anyone purchased any of the electronic goods advertised on this site? I enquired about a Nokia phone and a TV and the destination address for the payment (by western union transfer) came back as Lagos, Nigeria, a notoriously crooked part of the world. Has anyone purchased anything in this way and actually received it?

Our classifieds are meant to serve the local communties in Qatar. This means that the person selling should be in Qatar!

Occasionally a spammer gets through and posts a dodgy cellphone ad. If you spot one, please report it with the URL via the contact form (http://www.qatarliving.com/contact)

The best way to judge an advert is to check if the phone number is local.

Thanks all for your comments - it seems universal opinion that it's a scam. I must admit I thought so as soon as I saw Lagos as the destination for the money! I'm not sure this guy should be allowed to continue advertising things for sale on this site. Any thoughts?

This is a classic scam....

There is a reverse of this as well if you are selling something. The buyer will contact you and offer to send you a lot higher amount of money. Say QR10,000 when the item is only QR500. They will then say to give the rest of the money to a friend of theirs locally. You receive the money in your account, say thank you, give the remainder to the other person (like all good citizens ;-) ) and away you go. A few days later, your bank will take all the money back as the amount cleared was cancelled from the other end.

Aaaahhhhh the lies, the lies! One thing to remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Its a confidence trick. 419 fraud.

Have a look at this wiki article which will explain things a bit more.
