A sporting culture in Qatar?

Hello all... Just wondering about the popularity of sport in Qatar. What are the most popular sports? Where are they played? Who plays them? What about children? Are attending football matches, for example, popular? Who are the popular sporting icons?

Ooh, and if anyone knows popular playground games played by children in schools, that'll be really interesting...

Thanks all!!

there's Qatar Bowling Federation, with the national team and other professionals. They used to meet in Qatar Bowling Center, but since it closed for renovation they meet up regularly in City Center Strike Bowling (ground level)or in Rendezvous (TV r/about). R u a pro bowler? I play bowling also, at least I could throw the ball and hit some pins!

Sports is considered as the most important thing in Doha. teh government invests a lot in the sector. Most popular sports is of course Football, however stadiums altough with very big capacity are never full (just few hundreds attend matches) except in the semi final and the final of the Emir's cup (this is when stadium get really packed).

Qatar alos organize many sports acitivities: You've got the Tour de Qatar (Cyclism) in January, 2 Tennis Tournamment for Men & Ladies (with international names)in February, the Qatar Grand Prix for Athletism in May, Motor GP in April...

Of course Qatar will host the Indoor Asian Games 2011
