Aquatic Center

Hey y'all,

does anybody know if I can swim in aquatic center? I mean, is it like in my home country, that I go there, pay entrance and than I can swim? If so, any idea on timings and prices.
If not, is there a place like this in Doha? (I am talking about sport swiming, not this hotel bath tubs!)

I don"t want to join a club! Just walk in, swim, walk out for my own!

Thx

you'll need to get special permission to use the doha college pool. the national team is also using that as a practise pool.

don't know what the point is, they're terrible!

but yeah, the aquatic center might open it's older pool, the old Hamad aquatic center to the public once the mess we made for the asian games is sorted!

OK, here is the truth about the Aquatic Centre...

The Centre is currently being used by the national team, a few local schools and sports clubs. There have also been a few isolated events aswell.

The plan is for the pools to become more accessible to the community...but not yet. Lifeguards, equipment etc. are still required. Hopefully it will be open within the next 2-3 months. Watch this space for further details.

Other ideas to swim...that's a tough one, I used to swim at the Oasis Hotel, 25m pool, during the week quiet and cheap. Otherwise there is a group at Doha College for adults to swim (fitness).

Good luck!

Well there is an olympic sized pool but it's indoor, it's great, i love it, but once in a while I like to go out to the beach, just lay in the sun, drink cocktails and be lazy :-)

Oh, by the way... all you others don't start with that name...my creation, my corny, mine, mine, hahahahaha....I rule the world pinky!!!!!

Okay, let's get serious: Haven't heard of a pool in a hotel to swim! aren't there facilities at university?

By Cornellian• 29 May 2007 15:38

Are u serious ? damn that would be one hell of an experience! Hey I'm starting to like my new nickname 'Corny' lol. No more beaches for u young man, from now on ur staying in pools!! :P

Hey do u know if there are hotel pools which we can go to without being a member ? just pay a fee at the door ?

By WhoMe• 29 May 2007 15:30

Yeah tried that, but hit my head on the iranian coast line, damn that hurt! And all of a sudden there was Life Guard in a camouflage dress and told me I should get out of the water. I said I need some recovery, so I don't know what this guy thought, but he started the next race with a shot, so I had to hurry back, because all the others were already gone!

Freakin' experience, I can tell you! prefer to stay in a pool..especially those sharks, that hang on your legs after a while slow you down... Suckers!

Haha yeah u'd have to keep going in circles. Well if u really want to swim u can always swim in the sea, it's pretty long distant :P

How to swim in a bath tub, corny? I am long distnace swimmer? It would literally turn me mad always turning around after 10 metres!

Seriously, I love DOha, but this is the only thing that makes me angry...okay, beside Landcruisers!

It sucks that there's nowhere to swim here, even at hotels u have to be either staying there or a member.

Thanks pops!

May be i should go there and battle the entire national team on all distances above 1000m. Before I place a bet. If I win i get my own time with noone else around!

By WhoMe• 29 May 2007 15:07

I think it's only possible when joining a team...but you'll never know, corny!

you can't swim in the aquatic center yet. it's meant only for the national team. it was supposed to be open to the public after the games but at the moment, that's in the "Inshallah" stage!

I've tried looking for such a place but there was no hope, all I found were the hotel pools. Hope there's something like that here.
