The only kids i know that go to American Academy are Filipino. Not that it's bad or anything, just if you are expecting it to be like an American school you will be very disappointed. It's not a top tier school. Check it out, though. My friends took their daughter out of PSD (Philippine School Doha) and she loves the American Academy.
IF you are coming from (former parachute round about) replaced with a signal now on the E-ring road towards Inductrial area, after travelling few hundred meters, on your right hand side, you will find the buliding of American Acedemy. Just after it is Supreme Eductaion Council building. You cannot miss it.
I checked out the American Academy after school let out one day and found the facility quite old,dirty and in bad condition. I took that as a bad sign, but you might want to check it out further as far as staffing, curriculum, etc.

If I remember correctly, the American Academy is almost attached to the Supreme Council of Education, they share a parking lot.
There'e the Canadian school but I think they are only taking up to grade 8
