Laptop computer and operating system

Hi guys - I'm moving to Doha in a few weeks, and just wanted to check something. I've been told NOT to buy my laptop in Qatar, as it will have an "arabic" operating system, and therefore be undecipherable to my western eyes as/when I need to do stuff with it. Is this correct? Should I buy a new powerbook here in Oz before I come just to be sure? thanks in advance...

I am assuming from the point in your post that you are looking for a mac, "powerbook".

You will get OS X here in english and i am sure you can request one that doesnt have the arabic keyboard.

Best to buy it here because i do not think that a Mac international warranty will cover the middle east, besides that you will probably get it cheaper here.

I am trying to get hold of a mate of mine here who has bought one locally and i will update you with his comments as soon as the lazy boy has woken up.

CHave a good one!

You might have issues getting the latest, greatest, top of the line laptops here. Most of the units I've seen here are a generation old...not bad but not bleeding edge, if that's what you're after.

If you're looking for the latest, you'll probably have to shop elsewhere. The advantage to shopping here is local service.

Good luck.

Everything and most of the brands are available here. In the beginning of the installation of the operating system on the laptop, you can choose between installing the Arabic operating system or the English operating system. It is like my friend 'e46M3' said earlier, the only issue would be in the 'Laptop Keyboard'. It got both of the characters printed there, the Arabic and the English.

Best Regards

you can find diffrent models of Laptop with different OS. If you don't want, just disable Arabic options. Only one thing I don't like that is Keyboard(English & Arabic mix). That's why I bought from Saudi Arabia which is only English keyboard.

What might throw you off is that most laptops here have both Arabic and Latin characters on them, but that's something you get used to quickly.
