That ridiculous little patch of ice would be ace??? :? I think that thing is the saddest thing I've ever seen and the people who actually dress in snowsuits to slide down 5 ft of ice are even sadder. :(
Having read all the comments posted, it narrows down to pretty the fact there's very very little to do here and what there is get's swamped with people! Hopefully there will be many more places and things to do as the city develop's. The indoor ski centre like that in Dubai would be ace! Lets hope that somebody builds something like that!
The Paloma looks to be the fav and will look to check it out for the first time next week. Keep the feed back coming always good to hear about whats hot or what's not.
I agree with Gypsy, I too would like to find a place that plays some good alternative music. I don't care much for dance music.
I have been to Garveys a few times. It get's crowded and you have to push and shove for drinks. I went to the Rugby Club but it is way too small. The place fills up fast and there is no room to move. As with any club in Doha there are way more men than women. Rydges is probably my least favorite. Way too crowded. Of course I probably didn't enjoy those places because of my personality. I am more of a sit, drink and carry on a conversation type. I don't enjoy dancing, so dance music does nothing but irritate me. The sports bar in the Ramada is where I go more than anywhere. I can sit down have a drink and be able to carry on a conversation. If you like to party hard I would not recommend the sports bar.LOL
I haven't gotten out to the Corniche yet. I have been to the City Centre and the velagio. I am an addict of the virgin music store. I would like to do some fishing. Also, 4-wheeling on the sand dunes sounds like fun. A couple of my buddies keep planning a 4-wheeling trip but it keeps getting pushed back.
There were some good ideas on this thread. I think I will give those a shot.

Move to Fernley Nevada, there are lots of bars Mexican Restaurants and Trailer Parks. It is the fastest growing town in Nevada. Get in while the Trailer rental space is available and cheap....
Sounds good! Can I join? We could as well smash beer cans on our foreheads and grunt like gorillas while the last beer drops are running down our faces!
I'm out now! Enjoy your weekend and have fun tonight, whatever you beat, drink or do! ;)
There's always plenty of crap bars near trailer parks and you can listen to depressing country and western music while you look out on a beautiful landscape of abandoned cars and hone your numeracy skills by counting your neighbors teeth. Can hardly wait for my retirement.

Just wait WhoMe, Paloma's looks pretty bleak after a year and a half. As for my trailer, well I home that will be near some kind of crap bar, and I can always drink beer out of cans with my 100's of cats and dogs, shoot at tincans on a fence. ;)
Oh really, didn't get that point! ;) But you are right! I am here for 5 weeks now and it starts getting boring, especially if you know the bar life in Germany! I am only going to Paloma (or the others) when some friends join me. I am glad I found some nice and funny people to go out with! Once I have my 4x4 I will go to the dunes and enjoy thursday evenings with a chilly private party in the desert! Until then I will stay on my balcony and enjoy my luxury-like view on the skyline and Doha bay at night!
you know what comes to my mind...remember the post yesterday with the ritirement? What are you gonna do in the evenings once you are at the trailerpark. Trailer walls are not that solid! ;)
now I understand your metaphor. When exessively touring through the bars, everyone's head feels like having beaten the head all night against the wall when you wake up next morning! ;)
...go to Corniche and watch the bay. The beats you here isn't house music, but gipsy beatin her head on walls. Nice background for a romantic dinner. You can hear it throughout qatar!
No, sewrious advice now, get prepared... You aseated? fastened seatbelt? Here we go:
The Paloma in the Intercontinental is pretty nice if you look for some dirnks and music. If you want to have a bear and a quieter environment...Moevenpick. Party with loud music European club (good and cheap beers). Rydges is also a good place to have a drink and meet people. These are a view places to go for in the first week, until you make some friends and start discovering Doha on your own and determining your preferences! If you want a chilled evening, you can go to the park near Sheraton at the end of Corniche and have a picnic there! Many families do that, but I guess your question was aiming on the other alternatives!?
Anyway, have fun! and nod your head to gipsy's beat!
I'm not sure about anyone else but I find beating my head against a wall repeatdely works as a way to pass the time here. Defintely more fun than anything else.

I agree with you JonB but I think you left out c & h in bitter. Life is what you make of it. Not my quote. My philosophy.

Yes cjpdad27, banging your head off the wall is an excellent way to pass the time. It's certainly more fun than any of those bars you listed.

Find me a good place that plays alternative music e46m3 and I will headbang the night away. Unfortunatly everywhere here plays crap dance music.
Why don't you try headbanging instead? After 10+ years it works wonders for me.
LOL WhoMe, that's far to clever for me, but thanks for picking it out. I just meant I'm bored with the bar scene here. LOL. :D
Those are good places to go WhoMe if you are new. After a year and a half I'm beating my head off the wall. :P
