Help needed - leaving Qatar

Firstly it has been a pleasure reading QL over the past year and helped greatly before arrival and once here. I am hoping at least someone out there can help me this time around. I realise this is probably posted to the wrong forum, but I am hoping for responses asap.

I have resigned from my employer on personal grounds; mainly I do not want to continue being associated with this organisation on a professional basis. I submitted my required notice and during this time they were going to attempt to find a replacement for me, which would permit me to leave as soon as I was replaced (I don’t think they have made much effort to do this at all). This isn’t a case of wanting to leave Qatar, but it has just turned out that way as I now have an offer from another GCC country (they wish me to commence as soon as possible). While waiting for my notice period to expire I have cleared all money owing, so do not have any outstanding payments or loans here.

As the time lapse since submitting my resignation is well over the one month required by Qatari labour law but still within the notice period required by my employment contract, are there any avenues that I may follow to actually leave Qatar? Obviously my employer doesn't want me to leave as they have yet to replace me, but I really just want to go.

Any info and help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Obviously I can't say exactly what and where, but I am simply one of many expats in Qatar that are brought in to be a warm body in one of the various "International" schools. Obviously some of those schools are far better than others! No entitlements as it has been under a year; just basically want to cut my losses and have no further professional association with them at all. The fact I have an offer in another GCC country is just an added bouns and has nothing to do with my desire to just leave, but just means I need to leave earlier than expected.

What does your employer say about you leaving early? Have you suggested it to them? If they are not being helpful then I suggest to just leave? can I ask what the reasons are why you are leaving? Have they said that you get any entitlements for the year you have worked? Eg holiday pay etc. Does the labour law override the contract that you signed? Make sure the contract is valid as a lot of contracts are not worth the paper that they are written on. FOr example did you and the employer both sign the contract at the same time, was there an independent witness to sign it etc.

Good luck

As I have been here under a year, it is my understanding that under the labour law 1 month notice is enough. My contract states I must provide 3 months notice which I did; this period still has 6 weeks remaining. While my position was initially advertised I believe the company is no longer making a reasonable attempt to locate a replacement, hence not allowing me to leave when I intend to.
