restrictions on Asian Games employees?

HI there,

I'm a Canadian citizen who was in Doha working for the Games. I left Qatar in mid January, with an NOC and my residency permit was cancelled.  Now, I have a new employer who wants to sponsor me.

When my new employer went to the ministry to enquire, they were told that the ministry will only allow about 10% of the AG staff to remain in the country. They won't say how many have stayed so far.  I am very surprised about this, as the Asian Games told employees that the ministry looked favourably on keeping AG staff in the country and the AG HR department actively helped employees get other work.

In the meantime, my new employer is bringing me in on a 3 month business visa to see if they can sort out the mess.

Anyone hear about this one yet?

Thanks for your input guys. If that's the rule, dweller, then I should be okay, as I was working for the games for 15 months in total, so I would be over the 12 month period you were quoted.

It's all very strange and seems to be more of a whim than a rule at the moment. We all know that things can change quickly with the ministry!

Rules in Qatar! can't be defined they change overnight so "dweller" is right you should at least try you never know when some thing can work for you.

Best of luck man!

When I left DAGOC in 2004, they (DAGOC) provided a no objection certificate. I found another position but was refused a sponsorship transfer as I hadn't been in Qatar for 12 months. I had previously been in Qatar for 15 years (82 to 97)

It took the ministry 4 months to tell me that I couldn't transfer sponsorship.

Good luck but don't hold your breath
