I like the comment "comng to Qatar for 1+ years" on your profile.

We said we were going to Kuwait for "a couple of years only" in 1978.

We eventually left the Gulf supposedly for good in 2004 but I was back in Abu Dhabi for 3 months this year returning home only in early December.

This post is much more positive!

I have yet to get to Qatar, but i'm only a few weeks away from going!

I have read a lot of negative posts that were getting me worried but this has been much more inspiring!

I've only lived in Qatar for about 4 months and am home for a week for Christmas. its nice to see my family etc but i'm already looking forward to going back to Qatar. there are trees etc here and its rainy and my family seem so loud and rude compared to my friends in Qatar. they also have funny accents!! on the bright side they understand everything i say really quickly so i dont have to repeat myself.

hope everyone has a merry christmas in Doha xx see you at the second QL get-together :-)

I have been here since December 2005 and I really like it. My only problem here is the unexplained high rents which is eating up my salary.

Best thing I like in Qatar is security!! I mean very low criminal rate comparing to other GCC, Arab countries. I also like Qatari people

i have been living in qatar since 2004, after spending 5 years in riyadh, yukkkk. beleive me, there is no comparison between the 2 cities.

in qatar, you feel you are welcomed, it's safe and improving big time.

i will miss the country if i ever leave it

I think people would complain even if they lived in paradise, it's human nature. That's far from saying Qatar is paradise, of course. Truly, it leaves a lot to be desired but let's face it, so does any other place, different countries may have different issues but they have issues all the same. If at the end of the day we are still here, doesn't it kind of mean the things we like about it are more than those we hate?...

when i leave qatar, i think i miss

the peace here,

the traffice here, (congested, but far from the like in beijing/bangkok.....)

i like the safe environment, sleep without locking your door. !!!

not so much on the food......i prepare myself..

the cheap car...

the flat land, though it is bare flat...

I have lived here since August 2006. I came from the UK and had never travelled before. I love living here, love the shopping, the diversity, the tolerance. I know it is not perfect but I accept that I am a visitor in a Muslim country and try to respect this, as my wants and needs are also catered for (Debenhams, Megamart, Christmas goods etc). I don't know why everyone moans so much, go and live in miserable, expensive, violent England for a while! Also, the kids we teach don't threaten us with knives, spit, swear, throw things and, if you tell them off, send in their violent parents! A novelty! The kids here are amazingly well behaved and respectful. This is a great place to live.

I miss Qatar too having spent a total of 18 years there. My daughter was there from 82 to 2005 and has only recently left. A lot of the moaning seems to come from those not having known it before the arrival of the bars and the shopping malls and when the Doha College was in a villa and portacabins.

We had a great time amongst a great community!
