if that give some saving after all the expenses, why not take it ? but school fee need to factor in.

Yeah I know you hi-jack threads......lol

Having been in the Gulf since 1978 the UK was no longer like it was when we left.

At the end of the second contract with DAGOC in 2004 we sat in Qatar thinking "where do we go now?".

At the time, our daughter and grandkids were living in Qatar and our son and his family in Oxford.

We like Thailand but thought it was too far from the family. We also looked at Romania and Bulgaria.

We spotted a house in Turkey (which is also mid-way between Qatar and the UK) on the internet and decided to go have a look. We spent a couple of days looking at property in Turkey including the one we saw on the net, which we liked.

We bought it in September 2004 returned to the UK, sold up and moved out in March 2005.

Since then our daughter has moved to Aberdeen and our son has moved to Dublin so we are now out on a bit of a limb but, being on the coast are never short of family visitors.

Turkey isn't like many other muslim countries (it's s secular government) and even Ramadan is nothing like it is in th Gulf.

Can you imagine sitting with a beer on the Corniche in Ramadan?

We are thoroughly enjoying Turkey. The cost of living is low, food (certainly fruit and veg is dirt cheap) council tax is high (£39pa for the two of us), property is cheap and interest rates high. Petrol is EXPENSIVE. about £1.30 a litre and diesel about £1.

OK?

Okay I am notorious for hijacking threads today. But, I am curious Dweller why did you decide to retire in Turkey if you had never been there?

Just curious. And what do you think of Turkey now that you do live there?

If they consider it as "basic" then it will be included in the ESB (End of Service Benefit). Allowances can also be reduced or removed.

Make sure you get the education paid for ... otherwise you will spend the whole salary to pay their school fee.
