Good offer from QP??

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum. It's been quite interesting reading through the topics. Just wanted to ask your opinion on this package I was initially offered:

Base salary: QRs10,000 - 10,500 / mth
Transport: QRs2,200 / mth
Housing: Qrs9,450 / mth
Car loan: Int free, 5X base salary

I will be working in Ras Laffan, so hoping to be based nearby. I'm married with no kids yet and contemplating renting out a 2/3 BR apartment. Do you think this package is enough to cover our living expenses, granted the high cost of living there? I'm currently earning 1/4 of that but based in malaysia. :P

What about car maintenance and fuel costs? How much is a reasonable budget these days?

Appreciate your opinions.

Thanks.

It is a good offer. The only downside is that you are based in Dukan and will probably have to live there. It is soo desolate and odd it may drive you mad. the golf course is wondrous in a not so good way. This being said the 50QAr per day is something that you may want to negotiate on. I am told that Dukan have their own liquor store so that is the only benefit you will have on the long hot nights.

As always Vince one opinion is not the same as others. Most people you talk to nowadays hate Doha for many reasons, but i love it!

Good luck

Hi,

This is my first time to work outside my country and I just want to ask your honest opinion/s on the salary that I received from my employer. I will be joining the company on July 15 and I am having 2nd thoughts of cancelling the offer (though I already signed the Employment Contract). I dnt have any smoking and drinking habits (home type buddy). I have a wife and 2 kids in the Philippines. This is a job grade 14 and my position there will be a QA Engineer. My question is this,

1. Will I survive in Doha, Qatar with this Salary Offer?

2. Will I be able to save money to be able to send money for my family in the Philippines?

3. What would be my expected salary based on my experience?

Basic Monthly Salary: 4,800.00

Housing Allowance: 2,500.00

Transport Allowance: 1,000.00

GSM Allowance: 200.00

------------

Total Monthly Salary: 8,500.00

Experience: Planning Head - 5 years

EHS Practitioner - 5 years

Production Manager - 3 years

QMR - 1 year but more than 5 years of intensive experience in ISO 9001 and TS 16949

Thanks for your inputs.

Hi All,

I am moving to Dukhan in August. Is the compound still full? I know the last entry was 2008 but no-one has even suggested to me that I would not be living on the compound.

Any info welcome.

And if they have started negotiating the basic salaries again they will be up the creek without a paddle.

Sure way to chaos!

If the contract type is different OK but not on a standard contract.

18.5K for grade 16 is very low. Minimum ask for aound 21K. They are offering 18K to grade 14 nowadays.

No chance of increase in housing allowance. This is fixed for all employees. Only negotiable figure is basic salary. Good luck.

vince, i got your PM, but couldn't reply - it says that 'sender does not accept reply'.

to answer your questions - my hubby was offered grade 16, basic salary of 18.5k. He has 10 years of experience-currently working as a specialist.

like you and someone else i've met over the forum, we have not made up our mind yet. you can ignore my previous posting on stating that we've decided to go.

what we're gonna do is, we will write to joan, asking for an increase in housing allowance or a written guarantee of accommodation from QP. we definitely do not want to leave our comfortable, spacious home here, only to go and live in a small 2BR apartment for a few extra riyals...

these are the things that we are considering right now:

1) we both go

2) hubby go, i stay here - the most profitable financially.

3) we both stay here

if i go, i will try to find a job there, but i'm sure it's not gonna be easy, and we can't count on that.

Thanks guys, for your info..

We have decided to go.. after doing some detailed calculations on income + expenses for 5 yrs, plus taking into accounts our epf savings here, we found that it is still more profitable to go..other than that, this is a good opportunity to get a 'middle east experience', which will look good in the resume.. we don't plan to stay there sampai mati pun.. just as a stepping stone to a better opportunity, perhaps..

vince, when are you planning to go? have done all the documentations yet?

That obviously fits within the peer group to maintain some order of equity. It shouldn't apply to just Indian and Pakistani but to all similar "regional" nationalities.

There were 4 categories the last I heard: Qatari, other arab, asian and western

Lady Cactuss :

Dukhan Compound is FULL. You have to stay in Doha and commute everyday (the Doha-Dukhan road is currently being upgraded/ under construction, so don't expect a smooth ride).

Please visit this website : www.gulf-times.com, go to Classified and see how much it would cost to rent a house in Doha. Under current market, you have to top up the QP Housing Allowance from your Basic salary to pay for the house rental.

I always give this frank advice to Malaysians who intend to come here : If you're not desperate, DON'T COME. If you still decide to come, please prepare Plan B, what you'll do if things don't turn out well here.

Although QP has standard basic salaries for specific grades however, it has been observed that asians (specially Indians & Pakistanis etc) are placed at lower to low-mid end of that range whereas western are placed at low-mid to high-mid range. Others also fall somewhere in the middle.

By dweller• 5 May 2007 19:01

How long have QP had different basic salaries based on nationality? As I understand it, the same pay scales apply to all.

In the peer groupings, I think you will find that malaysian are classed as Asian.

Once you enter in to a contract you are reuired to stay for the total duration unless you find somebody to serve the balance period. Finding somebody is your problem and not theirs. otherwise they will create a big scene for you. Remember they have your post dated cheques. They just bang the cheque at the post dated date. They will go to police if you close the account or left no money in the account. be careful.

Hello Vince and the rest of community,

My husband got an offer from QP in April.

The job is in Dukhan. He might have gone to the same

interview as you in AP rec. office in April.

We also would like to know about dukhan, tried to search

but limited info available.

The offer only mentioned "Accomodation will be provided in Dukhan

once available". We not sure if there are sufficient accomodation

there. If not, we have to live in Doha and he has to drive daily

to dukhan. From the available info about Doha, the rental is very expensive and the housing assistance of 6.5k would not be sufficient

for us.

Please advise & share with us if you got any contacts established with malaysian community or additional info about dukhan.

Vince,

Depending on your salary grade, QP will reimburse either in full or partial.

For Malaysians, QP use Qatar International School (QIS) as the Benchmark. Other schools which offer higher fees than QIS, you'll have to pay the difference.

Please also note the following :

1. There is shortage of seats in International Schools at the moment. Even if it is available, it may be available at schools that are more expensive than QIS

2. QP only pay for tuition fees. Other fees like books, computer, extra curricular activities, transport, uniform, etc..employees have to pay themselves.

3. If you compare fees at International Schools here with those in Malaysia....you will never believe it !

By stealth• 1 May 2007 16:41

Grades below a certain lower number is off limits to westerners as the pay is less. I think its vice versa for the asians when you go higher

I have heard that different basic salaries exist based on the nationality of the individual within QP. For the beenfit of all people intending to join QP, will everybody post the basic salary of the nationality they know for lets say grade 14 within QP. Nationalities may be diffentiated as follows:

1. Asian (Includes Indian, Phillipines, Pakistan etc)

2. Arabs (Includes, everybody from North Africa to Egypt to Lebanon, Syria etc).

3. Western (Includes Western Europe like UK, France, Germany, Canada, US etc)

4. Semi Western (Includes South Africa, Eastern Europe, Malaysia etc)

All inputs shall be helpful.

By Noble-Man• 29 Apr 2007 08:52

Vince,

Yearly salary increment in QP ranges from 0-8 % (this will be stated in your contract I supposed). But please note that how much increment you'll be getting is not really dependent on how good your work is, rather it depends on your Departmental Manager on how he wants to distribute the Increment Budget. What I'm saying is there is no transparent/ objective method within QP on how Salary Increment % is being decided/ distributed.

The other factor that I guess worth considering is the strengthening value of RM. Qatar Riyal is pegged at 3.65 to 1 USD, while exchange rate for USD : RM now has reached 3.3. There are various reports I've read that USD : RM exchange rate will reach 3.0 next year. That is scary though as your income in Qatar Riyal will shrink by 10-15 % when you transfer money back home.

You're basic seems ok but compare it with what your field pays in the ME. Project Managers can command very high salaries in certain fields. Supply and demand.

If you want a 6 bedroom villa though it's going to be 15-20,000QR/month. You're housing allowance is non-negotiable so expect to dip into your basic salary. Regarding family accomodation for only the first 3 months this is definitely true. After 3 months HR will threaten to charge you 500QR/day until you leave and they will offer no assistance in helping you find a place.

Hi all,

I'm a newbie! This forum is an excellent tool for sharing info amongst the people.

I have recently been offered the following QP offer

Grade : 16

Basic : 26K

Transport : 1K

Accom : 6K + suppl allow approx 5K

Furniture : 45K

Free Schooling for my 5 kids in British school

Free Medical coverage for family

Tickets : Yearly economy return tickets to & from London for all family

Leave : 30 work days

Misc : Full relocation costs

Interest free car loan 3 times my basic ie. 78K

I was told by the QP HR guy the following

1)Max for grade 16 basic is 28K.

2)QP will arrange for family accom in a compound for 1st 3 months only

3)Tickets are encashable

He did not mention that there would be any Western Inducement Allowance which I understand is approx. 385 GBP per month.

Do you think there is any room for negotiation?

What monthly living costs should be expected for a familiy of 2 + 5 kids?

Hope to hear from you soon..

Being offered Basic of QAR 17,500 / month for Grade 14 is good, considering you only have 7 years work experience (and I assume you're in your late 20's or early 30's).

However, please take into consideration the following :

1. If there is any performance bonus you receive from your current employer as no performance bonus is paid by QP

2. There is no EPF contribution by employer here

3. If your spouse is working and decides to join you, than her loss of income.

Regards.

no housing allowance? thats a little trouble to reckon. u need to find a suitable place in a certain amount, depends upon your budget.

assume 7000qrs for a 2 bed furnished apprt, water and electricity bills are seperate, maybe a 1000for that.so approx 8000 is your housing.

what about kids tuition fees, most good companies pay either full or half the tuition fees.

Car maintenance is not free but repairs due to faulty parts should be. You may have to pay for the labour to fit new parts. Check that all your entitlements are in writing when you buy.

The warranty will be subject to the car being maintained by the agent and that can be expensive.

Tentative in a sense that I have no formal black and white from them yet. Hopefully I'll get a favorable response from them in 2-3 weeks time. Will need to pore over the terms though.

I was thinking of staying nearer to Ras Laffan as I don't fancy waking up so early just to drive to work. :P What would my budget for food, rental, utilities, fuel, car maintenance & insurance be like roughly?? Do you think QRs12k/month is enough to cover all that?
