Has anyone received an SMS from "Service Provider" with a Configuration Update ?? I have just got one and am afraid to open it as it does not say from Qtel......
I needed a very basic mobile........... to receive and make calls only, ie, no camera etc etc also I did not want to receive any unwanted attention or messages.
The place where I bought my mobile from gave me very good advice and even set up my phone.
As I have bluetooth, my bluetooth search is turned off and invisible to everyone, (I am only connected to the bluetooth hands free) hence, my phone does not give its presence to anyone in the vicinity so no sms and peoples numbers.
Hope this helps in warding off unwanted attention which eliminates receiving viruses.
Qtel was updating their mobile portal and on some phones to visualise it they have to update your configuration. So the message is legitimate, but as usual Qtel didn't inform anybody about anything.
i recieved messages befor days, the first telling you that you will receive now a configration message contains setting to download vides from the asian games as soon as it is started
this what i think you received, but sure you should received msg befor from qtel saying what will send to you now
Apparently telecom scammers have found their way through Q-tel and there are over a hundred different scams which range from you getting a call from a +900 number where girls laugh in the background and then hang up which lead the person to call back and get charged 20riyals a minute to wait on hold!! To also people calling or sending a message telling you that they are with the main phone service provider and they want you to punch in this code and dial it and it basically gives them a signal which allows them to make calls using your account. There is also many simpler ones like messages that tell you that you've won a billion and you must call a +900 number to claim it, and lets not forget the favourite son of an african x-president who needs you to send him 500dollars so he can bribe the bank clerk to release his 200million dollars which he will share with you!!
Just be careful, if Q-tel want something from you they know how to find you beleive me they will even come to your door or walk up to you in a coffeeshop, even KGB is afraid of Qtel!! They know how to get you!!
