Shopping ... A topic for the us GIRLS!

Miss Canada
By Miss Canada

Call me a shopping junkie if you wish, however, being new to the city I’m a little disappointed with the malls et al. If I see another cheap Zara / Mango knock-off I’ll throw up!! Well not literally, but you can see how I feel. Maybe some of you shopping experts can point me in the right direction. I’m not interesting in shelling out hundreds for last seasons Gucci or D&G; I’m rather a fan of mainstream designers such as Ralph Lauren, Kenneth Cole, DKNY, etc. I guess what I'm looking for is designer clothing at a a non-designer price.

Does outlet shopping exist here?

Much thanks!

sorry for the delay....was shopping in china. go figure. anyway. the prices are more or less the same as the us...less expensive than europe. but you have everything from saks 5th ave to tiffany to kenneth cole and anything in between...minus the gap. if you haven't already gone, i would check it out. especially with the dubai shopping fesival. i found la perla in sana!! can you believe it. and a few calvin klein bras. no panties tho...such is life. gucci goes on sale on the 15th of jan and in case you didnt know already, the shoes are 30% off as of 2 days ago. if you make nice with the staff, they might hold a purse or something till the big sale. also, don't forget about PRIME...they get good stuff at outlet prices. let me know how you managed!!!

>>>> a good hairdresser (am a Malaysian - Chinese)

Your selection is quite limited, also. I've been to Marie Clarie (do a search on her for contact info); she's OK .. nothing to rave about! I actually had to go back to have her fix my hair. A minor fix, but still "a fix". Since your choices are, well, LIMITED ... she's worth a try ... hopefully your hair isn't too difficult to cut! ;)

Anyone know what's going on with Toni & Guy? Did they manage to hire new staff??

Hi Gringa, thanks for your post. I've given a Dubai-shopping trip a lot of thought, perhaps I'll go early December. What are the clothing prices compared to say, North America or Europe?

>>> should you need anything specific..just ask. i literally spend my days touring the shops. just found some la perla bras for 30 QR!!

We've probably crossed paths!!! :P Where did you find La Perla for (gulp) 30 QR?? Insane!

first of all, everything you want, kenneth cole, ralph lauren etc is just a 30min flight away. you guessed it. dubai. other than that and the other stores that have been mentioned, try massimo dutti in landmark. clothes from spain with a ralph lauren feel. also, right up the road from chilis is a store called PRIME. if you are heading out to the industrial area, it will be in the last shopping center on the right side prior to going over the flyover. it is the outlet for Villa Moda. so there yoiu will find gucci, prada, fendi, pucci...etc. if you go to villa moda (located in the Ritz) they will put you on a sms alert as to when the sale is. normally you can expect it around jan 6th then again in july.

and yes, i shop way to much!!! having been used to 5th ave in new york, doha has been a huge shock to my shopping system....but good for my bank account.

should you need anything specific..just ask. i literally spend my days touring the shops. just found some la perla bras for 30 QR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Salam is not in the City Centre, it is just across the road (the one which is parallel to the Corniche and behind the City Centre). It is not that visible because of roadworks, but if you look for it you will find it. Girls... the best advices come from boys; )

Thanks for your help. You’ve inspired me on how to spend my next day off … shopping! Is SALAM located in the City Center shopping complex or nearby?

@ Princess: I like the idea of 50%!!! :P

Salam stores in front of City Center. Especially during season sale, and not only for girls. Love buying Hugo Boss suits for 800 QAR :)

Blue Salon - D&G, Moschino, D&G, Armani etc (50-70% off during the sale)

Merch "The Mall"- as above (more Viariety)

Emporian - Off Ramada Junction (upto 50% off during sale)

Gucci, Prada etc

None of the above are cheap by any stretch of the imagination but still cheaper than Europe. Watch out for the Gucci Sale (The Ritz Carlton) usually 50-75% off

Give me a shout as I do have a good discount of 50% for D&G, Moschino and Armani

Princess ;-)
