Getting a shoe-in for a job in Qatar

This may sound unusual, but I don't specialise in any particular field, but I want to aim for a job that would allow me the greatest chance of working in Qatar. Think of it as trying to get a job that you enjoy - I enjoy experiencing new cultures and customs, and I do my best work under pressure.

My parents have been less than supportive about my work prospects (basicly, they expect/demand that I live on welfare for the rest of my life, and in the demanding part they've been quite successful, but not through anything I've done - but that's a story for another time). Obviously that's no way to look at life. My most likely industry for landing a job would be I.T, followed by social welfare, but as for I.T, my official qualifications don't match my abilities - basicly, I'm adept at anything apart from networking. Obviously, for starters, I'm going to need some qualifications that match this.

What professions are most likely to land me a job in the Gulf/Middle East? I imagine with the perceived danger in the region, employers are probably more willing to send people there than working in-country. Why Qatar? After 9/11, I asked myself "just who are Muslims, and was America attacked?". I sought answers to my questions, and was amazed at the beliefs contained in Islam, and that the Isreal/Palestinian conflict isn't as one-sided as the media might have us believe. To people who don't understand the situation, I try and put it like this:

Imagine your grandmother has lived in her house all her life, and suddenly a bunch of homeless people come along, and say "ok, we're living here now". They may have had some terrible experiences, but it still doesn't make the situation completely "right".

Obviously, I don't have a grasp of the situation as well as some of the people on this boards, but IMO, it's better than a lot of naive people I've run into, who range from saying "why can't they just stop fighting over there?" to condemning the middle east as a whole, to "just drop a nuke on the whole place, problem solved".

I haven't been overseas, as yet, but I intend to. I was meant to go to Eqypt 2 1/2 years ago, but my parents pretty much put a stop to that (I don't live with them, but they basicly put me in a situation where my ticket - $3,000 is a lot of money for a 20 y/o - would be worthless, I know, this sounds odd, but again, it's a story for another day, or if you want an explanation, PM me.). In Sydney, for some reason, I feel "at home" in suburbs where storefronts have signs exclusively in Arabic, and hijab is commonplace. Don't ask me why. I also hate pork and alcohol, again, no idea why. Was I born to be a Muslim? who knows, but I'm guessing that if I went to my local mosque, I wouldn't exactly get an unbiased opinion...

anyway, which jobs would give me the biggest chance of landing a position in Qatar, or the middle east, for that matter? I'm in Australia, and I've found myself to be tolerant and interested in other cultures and customs, even if I find them completely strange or downright odd. I'm also not one to openly object to something that doesn't "agree" with my own belief system - I can imagine quite a few people I know who wouldn't last 5 seconds in Saudi or North Korea...

Don't expect to be paid a fortune and expect to be available 24/7 with or without qualifications.

Any danger in Qatar is perceived only in some countries........including the US

You hit the nail on the head when you say you need to get some qualifications.

Find out what interests you in life, gain some experience and then you can come over here. There will always be jobs around but you have to find your niche first.

Try journalism if you're good at expressing yourself or like to relay events on the ground. You could be an engineer and get a job here, there's a lot of construction.

Sorry if this seems abrupt but that's the way to go.

Good luck.
