Gettting around Doha
Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and am coming over in mid-August.
I just wanted to find out what the best way to get around town is. Is there an efficient and cheap taxi service? There are no buses or metro, right? My company has offered me an interest free loan on a car purchase, but I was hoping there was some other way! Any help would be much appreciated :)
Not sure, maybe 4*. It's near the museum off the corniche. No liquor license.
What star is it? Where is it my mind has drawn a blank!
No problem, hope it works out. It's a small hotel, 46 rooms, so I hope you find the vacancies you need.
I can not say thank you enough thank you thank you thank you
I saw the manager of Al Bustan Hotel a couple of days ago and he said they're not going to go the Asian Games way anf sticking to private business. If you're still looking for rooms might be worth checking with them.
Just a warning guys i have tried avis and a couple of others to hire a car in novemeber and decemeber they do not have any to hire out!!! I would try the smaller ones
I got lancer for 1950 Qr a month...
Try the big names like thrifty, Avis & budget. You need credit card, without it no car.
Good luck Stashman :-)
Not to mention that it's a pain in the butt to try to organize cabs and limos. :) And if you're a journalist than I'm assuming you are going to have to do a lot of running around.
Ok, thanks very much for the direction, much appreciated :)
You would be looking at 600QR or 800QR a month, that would just be for going to work and back, any other time you need a car would be extra. And you can't walk anywhere in Doha, Especially in August. That would be between 10 and 40 QR per drive.
Believe me I will never regret getting my car no matter how long it takes me to sell.
thanks a lot, so looks like a car in Doha is going to be pretty much essential for getting to work on time!
Would you know how expensive it is to hire a car? I'm thinking this might be better as if things don't go to plan for whatever reason then at least I don't have to go through the hassle of selling it on?
Sorry for asking such boring questions!
Yes, there is a bus service but it's still in its infancy with no proper shelters at the bus-stops and it's used mainly by laborers.
There is a metred taxi service that is very difficult to use because there aren't enough taxis, you can call ahead to book a taxi but that doesn't mean it'll show up on time. Then there are more expensive limo services which are also generally more dependable.
You must factor in that many of these taxis and limos have monthly contracts for the school run so it's difficult to find a taxi during rush hour. And with the Asian Games coming in 4 months God knows what transportation is going to be like.
Take the plunge, and the loan, and drive yourself.
