Salary and Cost of living in Qatar

Hi,

I have an offer of ERP Functional at QP for 16000 QR pm in grade 15 and on a one year contract. No written commitment for renewal next year. I am thinking of moving to Qatar in one month's time with my family for which accommodation, transport will be given as per contract.

Presently I am in a secured PSU job in India. Can anybody suggest me whether the salary offered is sustainable with the kind of cost of living in qatar.... is there any chance of savings?

Thanx & rgds,
ASD

Being invited for face to face interview indicates that you have a good chance.

1. This varies. They will have to obtain an entry visa and this depends on the ministry together with how many

candidates they wish to interview. Obviously they will not want the candidates meeting so there will be some time between interviews.

2. Again this could vary depending on how many they deem are worthy of interview.

Sorry if this sounds vague but it's the best I can offer.

Is a new title on me, particularly in HR if you are an Engineer by profession..

HR has various sections. They used to call those below managers "Head of........".

The salary will probably be set in accordance with pre-set conditions (unless things have changed very recently) using a statistical equation taking into account tried and tested factors which will ensure that your salary is in line with your peer group.

Hello everyone,

May I please have someone to answer my question?

The questions is, If I had to work as an Assistant Manager at QP at HR Department, what is the best starting salary for that particular position? including the allownces.

Your response to this post will be valued.

Thank you

The sooner QP apply common scales on a corporate basis the better.

They could then centralise the HR functions.

Corporate JE was resisted for years but I believe is now undertaken on a corporate basis or at least using a common plan.

All new QP aspirants!

In the long run you will realise QP is not all goody -goody. Rasgas, Oxy and other multi-national companies pay much better.

Think twice before jumping on to the band wagon.

@Moudir... I wont blame you for ignorance "cuz I presume the cost of living in Doha re groceries, dining out, shopping in general, entertainment, etc. will be much higher than in India". Most of the world is still living with an image of India in 20th Centuary (Specially the decaying colonial masters)....if we compare apples for apples , A 3 bed room appartment (Central A/c) Costs more money in Delhi/Mumbai/Hyderbad/Banglore today than at any free hold options in the middle east..

Even equivalent rentals are much higher...a 3 bed appartment at DLF New Delhi costs 100000 Rupees (Around 8500 QRs)...In Doha you still get it for 7500 QR and at Dubai you still get it for 7000 AEDs...

All five star accomodations in India are much more expensive than the middle east..I guess a surf of the net will be fine...

@Steamy..

Transportation allowance is 1000 QR if you are based in Masaieed and are working at base...

However for example if you are working at Ras Laffan and your position is based at Doha..I think (Not exactly sure of the figure) it works out around QR 2100

Short term guys wont get transportation allowance since they can't get car loan..So usually they get a company car with gas paid..Usually a Skoda Superb or Nissan Maxima...(Models could change)

Where are these QP compounds in Doha, and what are they like, does anybody here live in one who can describe the accomodation? Thinking Senior Grade btw.

I think there is a standard time frame for Visa processing. If it is urgent, then QP might get it processed faster. The best thing to do is to get in touch with the QP Human Resource person whom you must have met in Doha. I am sure they will be able to provide a time frame for your Visa.

I did my med exam back in doha while I was there for interview. I signed the offer and QP is ready to apply for visa. i am just waiting for renewal of my passport. do you think the fact that medical was done in doha can accelerate the process?

Steamy/ASD,

It took me 5 weeks to receive the Visa after I send my medical report. Only on receipt of the Visa will you be asked to submit your resignation to your current employer, so till that time do not put in your papers. Once you receive the Visa, then you advise QP of the possible date of onward travel to Qatar. They will arrange for your PTA and flight reservation. Hope this helps.

Best Regards.

the list of groceries is available somewhere else on this site. it was posted recently by moonbean. look under cost of living

by the way, I guess you and I are having the same question regarding visa. look at the above post #5761.

I was told that from the time OP applies for visa for you it takes 2-4 weeks if you have done your medicasl. however I wanted to know if someone has a more recent experience. if you manage to get the answre let me know as well.

I am also offred a grade 15 position based in masaieed. same basic salary.

Until you have loads of vices and throw your money away in those..You will be saving substantially....

Look at a figure of approx Rs 1.5L Per month of savings...(Thats tax free by the way..)

asd..

Dont worry..Take your flight..The beauty of One Year contract is that you live inside QP Compound..which is worth 20000 QR per Month..and you get it for free...

Also..despite no written commitments..You will stay in Doha as long as your project is ON..thats the nature of QP positions..Many people are with QP for 20 Years with definite contract...

However...if You are looking for stability think again...Life will never be the same again...You will keep changing jobs...but the savings and confidence...means..that you wont regret...

asd963,

This is my opinion, other posters might have theirs:

1.You should come if your offered salary is equivalent to 1.5 to 2 times your current net income (after tax) (in your base country).

2.You will save some money if you tightly control your personal budget, cuz I presume the cost of living in Doha re groceries, dining out, shopping in general, entertainment, etc. will be much higher than in India, plus,

if your contract is not spelled ‘renewable’, you should also assess the time and money lost upon your return home until you find another good permanent job.

Good luck !

Moudir
