Hello - I have heard it is very hard for a single women to rent an apartment by themselves. Is this correct? I have heard it is more viable to shack up with a male friend and the chances of securing a rental are much easier..................any thoughts????????
I also have single girlfriends who live alone and they didn't have any problems finding accommodation. They found their flats on their own too. The only problem is finding a place thats not too expensive!
I agree dentist, its not USUALLY a problem and its unlikely that the police will kick your door down in the middle of the night to arrest you for illicit toe sucking, or whatever article of law you have broken. However, it is still an offence and could be used against you maliciously. I had a friend in the UAE who had been living quite happily with his girlfriend for years. One day he got into some argument with a work colleague and the next day the police were knocking on his door to arrest him for living with his girlfriend. Granted, he eventually was let go but they had to live separately after that. he swears blind that his work colleague reported him.
So, although you wont be lynched from the nearest palm tree, it can lead to problems which are avoidable.
To be honest its not very hard for a single women to rent a place. I have met plenty of people working on the Asian Games, and you should be ok with accomodation. There are many single girls working for the Asian games so you will get help with the company you will be working for.
Do you have a yahoo or hotmail address? I will forward on any ads for accomodation that may be of use to you.
VW...Hmmmm in normal circumstances I would take that as a compliment or maybe say more - but seeing as I am moving to the middle east - thats exactly the kind of comment i want to avoid!! Hence why I changed my pic to the sunset instead of me!!!
If your employer is bringing you in on single status, make sure they will take care of your accomodation. Usually the company will sign the lease, then whoever lives in the flat is the company's choice.
Security shouldn't be an issue anyway, but it might be better for you to have a female roommate.
Too bad about the legality issue - having seen your picture, I'm sure there would be no shortage of young men willing to share their flat with you ;o)
i have heard from some of my female friends that it is in fact quite difficult for single girls to rent an apartment on their own. GIASI is right and sharing an apartment with a male friend who isn't your husband or family is against the law.
No shay, in fact if you live with a male friend who isnt your husband, you are technically breaking the law. I have seen single women renting apartments where i live, i dont think theres a problem. Maybe the single ladies on the forum have different experiences.
