Be careful when chatting to loved ones...

Colombo: A Sri Lankan woman who was irate seeing her husband drunk on Skype committed suicide while the husband was watching her from Qatar on September 29.

The deceased, a resident of Batticaloa Sri Lanka East, had been chatting on Skype with her husband, who is employed in Qatar.

They were arguing over his drinking habit and then she turned the camera, setting it properly so that he could see her committing the act of hanging herself, according to police sources.

It is reported that she had warned him that she would end her life, if he did not give up his habit.

Meanwhile, the husband, on seeing his wife prepare to hang herself, desperately phoned up their relatives in the vicinity of the house. However, by the time the relatives reached the house, she was dead.

Eravur Police, who is investigating the case, contacted the husband in Qatar and has obtained his statement.

The deceased was a mother of one child

Senseless yes....why...bcause committing suicide s a sin.. so let us not call it tragic..it was her choice to take that crazy decision...let me term her as psycho..allah forgive her sins

How sad! My heart goes out to the poor baby who had to lose his mother under such tragic circumstances. One can hope the man might have learned a lesson by this but sadly many times they don't. Personally I know women who have this same problem, and although non of them have resorted to such drastic measures like this woman did, they too suffer much frustration and desperation knowing the men are squandering much of their much needed money on their addictions.

You are blaming "things" ? Things are not bad, they just are. What a person DOES with them, that is important!

So true , false promises can lead to frustration , depression and finally to the point of no return.

I don't think any sane women would end her life on something like this especially when she had a son to care for.

I have a strong feeling the guy used to spend all his salary on alcohol and not send home enough for their up-keep.

Having been an expat for quite a few years, I have seen many a life destroyed..

I have seen men hooked on drugs, drink and gambling .

She probably couldn't take it any longer. There are so many cases of wives and children left behind to cope alone for years whilst the husbands are abroad working..

So sad indeed, but what she got from this?

Just making him feel guilty for the rest of his life?

Does it worth it?

Will he quite drinking or will drink more to forget?

Too many questions

But what I am sure about that the husband is so mean, if he knows that his wife don't want him to drink, why didn't he call her when he wake up from the God Damn hangover?

Perhaps it was not only the drinking but must have been seeing someone else too and not sending money back home to support his wife and child. If it was just the drinking then QDC could be held partially responsible for selling liquor to unstable persons and persons who could get others into trouble
