Qatar's Initiatives to Ease Traffic: Radars & Helicopters

Qatar plans to utilize helicopters to aid land patrols in identifying areas of traffic congestion, allowing them to address traffic jams more rapidly.

“We will have the helicopter between six and eight in the morning to check traffic flow in the capital Doha,” said Traffic Department Director, Mohamed Saad Al Kharji.

Other initiatives planned to ease growing traffic problems in Doha include installing radars to make sure that minimum speed limits are respected.

In addition, all the roundabouts across the Corniche will be removed by next month and replaced with traffic light signals.

Authorities are also planning to introduce strict consequences against motorists who violate traffic rules by overtaking on the right lanes.

“We will have radars for video and picture records. This phenomenon is dangerous and several drivers keep overtaking on the right despite the fines,” said Al Kharji.

“I urge all motorists to cooperate with us to overcome the traffic woes that are making Doha suffer these days."

When I read the title I just wished in my dreams if Helicopters are being proposed as public transport. :-) Wow Karwa Helicopters. Will be a good sight.

restrict the driving licence for those who can not use their mirrors while driving and every thing while be fine....i hate those drivers who stick to their driving wheel with both hands and open their eyes so wide without looking right or left or even have a glance to heir mirrors to see if some one is at their back..also please use your minds and hands while driving and stop braking for any thing..save money for your brake pads..

I think I'd like to fly in the helicopter instead of driving on the roads of Qatar.

Doha traffic will never improve...today afternoon on my way from work around 10 cars jumped the red light and more were about to follow near the Qatar Technical school roundabout. There was total chaos...somehow I managed to cross over safely...God knows what happened there afterwards...!
