Q1: Realistic salary for a family of 5?

Hello, I have a few questions for expats in Qatar who have have some experience moving to and living in Qatar with their family. My husband has been invited to apply for a job in Qatar and we are thinking about it.

I am wonder first how much realistically he would have to earn to just to cover basic living expenses for a family of 5 in Qatar?

Many thanks, Sarah

.....good point. I can see the companies education allowance would cover the younger 2 but we'd have to contribute extra for the eldest. It does look as though the cost of living in Qatar is very expensive!

as they are both unreliable and hard to find. Most western expats buy cars here. Some lease and some hire a driving company, it just depends on your needs.

check the education allowance to see that it covers all your childrens tuition at your preferred school and isn't just a set amount. Many are caught when they get here and find that the amount only pays for 1 1/2 of their 4 kids. Then they are in a real bind.

thank you for replies - I really appreciate it.

Thank you deedee. Yes, there is an education allowance included, along with 'full' medical cover (would need to check that one out), and return airfare once a year.

It's a bit confusing though, because they seem to have lumped the accommodation, travel and basic salary together.

However, I am assuming about 25K a month for a 4 bed family apartment.

dddrddr - When you say 30K qar a month, is that to include education and other expenses too or is it just for basics like food and bills (internet TV, fuel etc)? Do expats tend to hire or buy cars or rely on public transport and taxis?

Many thanks, Sarah

housing allowance, plus education allowance for each child (check websites for UK schools to get an idea of costs) plus travel expenses. Everything is considerably more expensive here besides petrol.

Funny. How in the world could someone so eager to go and ask questions without even telling the position he is applying for.

Anyway, for a clerk around QR 1,200.00

For a commercial pilot maybe a minimum of QR 100,000.00 per month. plus a lot of perks.

For a labor QR 800.00

Good luck in your job search
