I need to open a new bank accoount. Which is the best bank in Qatar ? I assume all of them will roughly be the same, but stll which has a slight edge (Money transfer, benifits etc)
Hello Ruphali :), If you pay your mobile phone bill or your Kahramaa bill (electricity and water) online each month, we will give you two free international transfers online every month. Please contact us whenever you have a query, on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CommercialbankQatar
you can open an account for you before you even come to Qatar, we will organise your chequebooks and bank cards. We will even provide you with a free handset and SIM card on arrival so you can stay in contact with everyone! Visit http://www.cbq.qa/EN/Personal/Tailored-Packages/Pages/New-to-Qatar.aspx
CBQ have set a up a new to Doha account which you can set up before you even come here along with your cards on arrival to Doha they also supply a sim card for you, not much help to me now I am here but very good for anyone you know coming here.
depends on your needs but for an expat with international fund transfers etc I would say HSBC. For pure domestic use QNB is not bad but they don't really seen catered for expats.
Opt the bank in which Ur company has account. or check whether Ur company is listed in the approved list of the bank you choose, so later no problem for credit facilities.
So from what i understand, i can open an accunt before i have an RP ? My RP is in process and hence i ask the question as i want to open a bank account...
What I like about CBQ is that they respond to enquiries very efficiantly. No place is free of mistakes but the good thing about CBQ is their quick responce.
I understand that. I am talking once i get the RP. People tell me it takes about 10 days to get a cheque book which i think is a lot of time. I am fairly new here and am notsure in which bank does the sponser hold an account.
that is the problem...no bank will open an account until and unless you have an RP or ID card...until and unless u dont do your RP then how can you get ur wife then...btw who is your sponsor and ur company account is under which bank
Well, i am just waiting for my RP and dont wanna waste time in deciding on the bank. From the advice it seems most people are goin with CBQ. Your help will be appreciated. Basically, i want a cheque book ASAP so that i can sign a contract for the house and get my wife ASAP :)
very well said...Any islamic bank..iam with kookie or i second after the comment of kookie...however CBQ is a good bank too :)...any help you want for CBQ bank please PM me :)
The best bank in Qatar for you would be the one that fits in your requirements.I suggest you visit the major banks here, and approach the Customer Relations person there to guide you with the facilities the bank offers. They include:
-Current Accounts facilities
-Savings Account facilities
- Money Transfer (However, I highly recommend using the bank transfer only in emergency cases. There are money transfer agents which offer better exchange rates, and lower service fees)
- Tie-ups with any bank in your home country to ease transfers

Doha Bank is the best in terms of money transfer..Online transfer for any amount just for SR10 transfer charges..exchange rates are also good..

You can open a savings account without RP at Ahli Bank. But they require a letter from a Bank in your country, confirming your bank account.
Yes visit a branch or just fill the form on line and you will be up and running in no time!!
