Yes despite all the sophisticated media coverage, and sometimes even because of inaccurate or bias reporting, distinguishing truth from falsehood, facts from fiction and justice from injustice is becoming more and more challenging!

One thing to be noted...whether villagio or boston..in the end some one is responsible...the only problem nowadays is "THE ACTUAL TRUTH NEVER COMES TO JUSTICE"...One person blames the other...today also for 9/11, alqaeda or bush is blamed but till today no one came in front and accepted the truth themselves...so many things hidden...full of dirty politics

Another thing that might grab more attention is that in some place those things happen often, in others not. so if they do not happen often, are somewhat out of the ordinary, more attention is paid.

Another key aspect is rememberence. We tend to forget about tragedies all too quickly. Villagio, Tsunami, Earthquake, WTC Bombings, WACO etc

I am sure that this like 9/11 or the holocaust, we will be annualy remined of this terorist attack..

Rather what I was referring to was why we tend to speak about certain calamities more than others. Whilst different in the aspects you pointed out, both the Boston bombing and the Villagio tragedy had one thing in common that they were just so unexpected and out of the norm.

Fathimah, i do not quite agree. the Boston bombing can't be put into the same category as the Villaggio fire. The bombing is done because somebody wants to kill people for a specific reason. The fire happened because of neglect and greed.

And I agree with Britexpat when he said "it is not necessarily about Muslims. It is more to do with countries who value the lives of their citizens more"

Another factor that made the Boston tragedy so talked about is the unexpectedness of the whole thing. I mean look at it in this way..when a news bulletin carries a story on children being kidnapped and killed brutally anywhere in the world(east or west), we may feel pain and sadness, but it has also become so commonplace around the world, that we are no more shocked by such crimes. The Boston explosion however was truly unforeseen and bizarre in that aspect.

Another similar incident could be the Villagio fire or the killing of the American teacher in Doha. Sure the dead maybe fewer in numbers than other atrocities around the world, but the very fact that it was still so unexpected and out of the blue, made these adversities much broadcasted and talked about for days to come.

There are diff parts of the world who are not at war still people get killed at the hands of outsiders or their own fellow countrymen. Shouldn't those be also brought into the picture to give it a comprehensive perspective.

It is the mistake of 1% which makes other 99% suffer..

This one 1% are corporates, politicians, fake religious extremists with insufficient knowledge (financed by the earlier two)or people who were ruined by others..just imagine how much courage you need to die by yourself? Some lose their tolerance as they lost their family in front of them.

Some of them are psychopaths who wants to find a short route to success by non_violence cuz non_violence is the most short cut route to something you want to achieve like if I pull a gun in your head and ask you to bow - u will bow..for that moment I am the king..so psychologically they want to be successful without caring their conscience.

It is a mixture of X and counter X.. and everyone of us play our role directly or indirectly.

Very less percentage of human being will do it for pleasure (psychopaths) others do it for power profit (politicians and corporates).

Religious wars we had long time ago..recent decades are all about power and profit (money).

This will not stop until something big happens globally or until our generation forgets the real stories of their ancestors.

P.S. These are my thoughts.

You make a valid point.

However, It is not neccessarily about Muslims. It is more to do with countries who value the lives of their citizens more.

The reality is that we become immune. This will be forgotten in a few days and something else will take its place..
