Saudi paralysis sentence

Rights group Amnesty International has condemned a reported Saudi court ruling sentencing a man to be paralyzed as retribution for having paralyzed another man as "outrageous."

In a statement issued Tuesday, the rights group called the punishment "torture," adding that it "should on no account be carried out."

Local media reports about the case surfaced over the weekend.

The Saudi Gazette, an English language daily paper, reported that Ali Al-Khawahir was 14 when he stabbed and paralyzed his best friend 10 years ago.

Al-Khawahir, who has been in prison ever since, has been sentenced to be paralyzed if he cannot come up with one million Saudi Riyals ($266,000) in compensation to be paid to the victim, the newspaper reported.

What I want to know is if the Saudi health system would then pay for the enormous expense of healthcare when this guy become an invalid. Will it also then compensate and support his dependents, who are innocent of his crimes.

It's not up to the victim to decide as to which type of punishment is justice.

That's why judiciary systems and court of laws exist.

Let us look at it from the victim's perspective. Should the victim be allowed to request the type of punishment to be given ?

But on a more serious note, both parties got blood on their hands. Ask the Crusaders, and spanish inquisition death squads.

Read Exodus..

A eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth. A foot for a foot.

Thelonius,

Welcome to the one of the MAJOR differences between Islam and Christianity

-One says an eye for an eye.

-Other says, If someone hits you on your right cheek turn to him the left one.

And Saudi Arabia really gives a hoot about what Amnesty International says to them.

actually ,I am surprised that this guy wasn't beheaded straight away

I would assume that if the victime "requested" that the culprit be named, then uit would probably happen.

But this is not an eye for an eye.. that's more of an eye for a titty..They should twist the rules further..

Like kill you if you vomit in public and slit your throat if you cough after 5 pm.

no but for real...

You kill-> they kill you

You paralyze -> they do your spine

You Rape?

I heard that they could cut your crime tool and feed it to a wild dog while ur petting him.

Im just curious...

If someone rapes.. do they actually rape him to fulfill the prophecy?

Otherwise, eye for an eye is not being applied effectively. Every system has loopholes :)

Eye for an eye.....

Tooth for a tooth....

Barbaric law.

Nay. Despite being rich, the family of the victim should pardon the convict by accepting compensation, then only he can escape.

I'm with Jack. The sentence of paralysis is unusual, but the idea that if you have enough money you can escape punishment seems altogether wrong to me.

Shouldn't justice be applied uniformly to everyone, rich or poor?

The worst part is that You can get away of being paralyzed if you are RICH!

This makes me so ANGRY! Times like this I wish I had super powers
