The recent horse meat scandal in EU seems to me to be clearly a case of flogging a dead horse. It is apparently ok to eat a cow, but not a horse. And the fact that nobody noticed indicates clearly that if something is packaged properly and sold in a reputed shop, people can be taken for a ride all the time.
