Extension of Phil. Passport Validity

Hello, everyone. I am writing this in the wee hour of the morning as I have received a call from home informing me that my father is in the ICU. I need to travel early Friday morning (2:00 a.m. flight) going to Manila. However, my passport is due to expire in May. I can only stay for 1 week in the Philippines due to work load. Hence, renewal back home is not an option. Question is, can the extension of the passport validity be done in the Philipines upon my arrival or does it necessarily have to be made here at the Embassy? I would appreciate your advice.

Hi yes you can go to the phil. embassy and they will give you passport ext. for 2 years - if applied with renewal, ext. is free. passport ext. will only take a day to finish (by next day you will get it)

FYI - in applying for an ext. they will USE the same passport you currently have - they will just stamp it under Amendments / hope this is clear.

since you have a valid emergency reason, you can have the validity extended either at the philippine embassy or at the dfa office in manila.

would recommend the philippine embassy doha though as it's faster there, meaning it doesn't take forever, unlike the dfa, and no appointments are needed. published processing time for dfa manila extensions is three working days, and after that you will need to get an oec as well. this would eat up a lot of your very precious time if you decide to have it done in the philippines since you will only be there for a week and more importantly, you need to attend to your father as well.

you might opt to apply for renewal the embassy at the same time. they will only cancel your old passport once you claim the new one.

yikes, it seems my response is too late. i hope you were able to extend your passport's validity and wish your father gets well.

Yeah, you need to apply for a renewal before you leave. You'll need an OEC to leave phils, that would require you to have a passport valid no less than 6 months.

You go to phil embassy to extend your passport but they will also ask you to apply for the renewal.

You may also try to make an appointment thru the web for faster transactions. Passport applicants in Manila may secure an appointment by logging on at the website www.epassport.com.ph or by calling (632) 737-1000

In my exp. i took it here in Phils embassy & you can wait with in an hr. but you still have lots of time, unless you stay more than 2 months in the phils.
