Hiya....Any Aussies in here? I am expecting an offer from MNC in management position and would think of moving in if alls gone well. Can anyone help me with basic question...what is cost of living in Qatar for family with 2 adults and 2 kids?

Do we have Australian schools here? I got both kids in primary right now.....

Also would be kind of u if u cud share some tips for me to be able to evaluate the offer rightly...(I have noted few things like NOC etc).

All help is much appreciated :)

Cheers,

doha is growing so fast, i was luck to get my son into compass school as it was opening a new annex, al grades from year 1 to 6, i applied at 4 schools. paid my Qr500 each time to put his papers in,, but only compass would take him, my australian friends have their kids in a canadian school they are going very good, and as i said over Qr58,000 a year for one child,, have your company pay.. nothing is cheap here and the school dont use Tablets like our schools back home for the kids..

Yes, Doha might be a rather small town, BUT traffic at peak times is horrible. I suggest you get places for your children in school and then select housing based on proximity to the school. It often takes me 45 minutes to go from West Bay to Al Waab.

No Australian school in Doha. There is a Compass school, many others go to DESS, Doha College, Park House and American School of Doha. Contact info for them and many other schools located under the tab at the top of QL "Qatar Guide". You will need to apply to several schools as spots are hard to find.

You need exit permit to go out from Qatar

your wife and children are under your sponcer

so that they are not required exit permit

You said You from great Western. Is it WA? or Western Sydney? You are selected so that it will take some time to complete all.

My questions to you are

1. Do they ask for police clearance?

2. Do they ask for documents attestation?

(Education, married, child birth certificate including police clearance)

You need to do those docuemnts by Notry than MOFA and than Qatar Embassy in Canberra

Now Qatar Embassy is open in Canberra but I am not sure Officer is available or not

If they are not available, you need another endorsement from Australian Embassy endorsement from Abu Dhabi before you do at Qatar MOFA in doha

All goes with money

Is that real? wow. So just for me to understand, primary member need to have exit permit, and not the family is it? Is this applicable for business trips also?

They hold you balls here, you keep your passport,, but you need a exit visa from your work place to leave to go out the country, easy form to fil in, they have it approved in minutes on line,,, not a issue trust me..

Good on you mates, thanks for your quick replies.

Weather ...yes would be a challenge but I had a small stint in Abu Dhabi before few yrs back and I am from great Western so i think I should take the climate variations u mentioned :)

Spybot - I am not thinking of changing company in Qatar (ho lord - not so soon at least!!) but just want to ensure I don't repent any clauses in my contract just coz I didn't think @ it. BTW what do mean by "exit permit" is this something if I have to leave country permanently?

NOC is when u wanna leave ur company and join another in Qatar...so u planning on looking 4 another job when u get here?...cost of living has increased quite some bit...petrol is cheap 2 ozzy standards....Make no mistake driving is gonna scare u at 1st but, u will get use to it...traffic is getting worse by the day so b prepared to have peak all day....Weather is great if u can take temps of 40+ degrees...winter it comes down to abt 26 during the day and 13-15 at night....be aware there is a exit permit system and that means u as the main member can't just leave without permission....hope that helps a bit.....

Approximately around 3000 Australian in Qatar

But we have no Australian Embassy in here

Directly control from Abu Dhabi in UAE

Some time they come to DOHA

NO Australian School is available here

But you can let them study at British Schools

those are more closed to Australlian Education

If you discloed me about your terms and conditions

I can tell you what is missing in there.

Just for Foods and Living expand for 2 adults and 2 children will be around 6000 QAR per month

also depend on how you are going to spend

It can go down to 4000 also can go up to 10,000

Remember

you need licence to Drink
