whyteknight speak about what you know! Government, Semi state employees like QP, personal servants like drivers, housemaids etc. are exempted from the Labour Law 2004 provisions. A major blot on Qatar's reputation.
you heard it for the past 5 months? my gosh, i've heard this since i came here in Doha before the 2006 Asian Games started... unfortunately i am still hearing this news, again and again and again... i was done being an expectant of the new rules, i am just waiting for the actual release and implementation of it! hehehehe!
Maybe the law has been changed without me knowing it, It's been talked about but no real action yet! I think Azilana etc. is wrong! Hope I'm wrong though. Basically the way things are are is that domestic workers have no rights other than the criminal law against abuse, injury, theft etc. That's why hundreds flee their sponsors every year.
yesss u r right dear friend...any idea when these rules will change..what abt the NOC rules ..the barring of 2 years,,,will this change if yess when ...any idea..i am listening this for the last 5 months ,,since the time i m here
not yet, maids etc. are expected to work 24/7, if they got time off they might actually get into trouble! I know Qatari families who lock the maids in!
Hopefully the long awaited reforms will happen soon!
