incompetent!!
is it just me or does anyone else find the ppl working in doha are just incompetent and they just dont want to work.. everytime i go to a bank , get into a taxi or just try to proceed with a simple day to day thing!! things just seem to take a negative attitude... people over here just simply have endorsed the words "NO" and "CANNOT BE DONE" .. can someone please tell me how to put up with this?
you are incompetent if you are working in an office who is just sitting using company's phone chatting with friends and still getting monthly salary and yet still complaining
I'll see eventually when I'll be ready to move there, sometimes in 2010. I have started to look at the job market, different companies, etc... However, I have been told that Qatar airways is really really bad. Any people from QA here?
Any suggestions for me to find a job?
Thanks! ;)

kymo.. i do agree on what u said 100 percent.. and thats the exact point which iv been tryng to prove.. this is a devoloping country and well if ppl dont pull thir socks up and get their act together this place is gonna end up nowhere!! so i gues after much being said.. we are back to squre 1!!
Incompetency done not only by expat workers but by Qatari workers also whose working in goverment offices. i experience one time when i processed the papers of my children. this lady told me that i lacked one attached document so i need to go back to office to produce it. the next day i go to the counter with another lady assist me and she don't even bother to check on the attached document asked by the lady previously. What a hassle, actually coz i need to absent from work and then again come back just to present the documents she's asking but not necessary anymore... The point here is that the factors of incompetency of workers does not lies on sponsorship or underpaid salary, it's the nature and behaviour of individual who used to do such kind of work.
Don't worry, I don't take it personal. It's cool. ;)
As per Europe, I can understand it's better for you but it's not true for everyone. I talked to some people living in Qatar, European, African, Arabic, Canadians of course eh eh eh ! They love it! Some others don't! It's all relative. ;)
It depends how you want to live your life, how you see things.
As per me, I am pretty sure I would be more happy in Doha than in Paris, city that I love.
Qatar is developing fast, it needs to learn a lot. People need to be patient and contribute to initiate positive changes. They shouldn't forget that this country is giving them. ;)
hey there everyone and kymo.. there were a few posts which made a lotta sense.. it really does piss me off to know what ppl are being treatd tat way.. but iv come to realise that thats just how the middle east is.. but at the same time what if everone had a "to hell with this attitude"??.. nothing would ever get done!!
one thing i live buy is "be the change u wanna see"
we all are here to work!! so when it comes down to working.. shouldnt we give are best??...
and KYMO.. ihope u dont think tht this is a personal attack on u or anything.. but i just wanted to say something.. i have been to a lotta these countries u have mentioned!! and yes there are a "few" of these sorta ppl but dont u think those countries are better off??.. there not as rich as qatar!! but still ppl dont say so many bad things abt the country they work in!!..

Hey guys, Hi Robbie,
I don't think it's fair to generalize such a thing in saying that there are only incompetent people in Doha. As usual, one always notices wrong things and complains about it. When everything is OK, we don't talk about it, it's business as usual. Go to New-York City or Paris, you'll see some cab drivers, restaurant employees, police officers or corner store employees not so happy. ;)
You know, I could make the same statement about Canada, France, Spain... where I have been living and working. Am I allowed to say I met in those countries a lot of "incompetent" people? Absolutely not. I just ignore them, as I stay focused with the majority who are hard working and devoted people.

If you want to know the reason for incompetence.Read this....
I joined Hamad with a contract which included appropriate accomodation, however even after one year , they did not give me any suitable accomodation (with a clear'go to hell 'attitude). When I talked to other people, they said you really don't have any option. If they treat you like this and you can't afford to go back to your country, develop this attitude of skipping work. Tit for tat.
However, do you realize what kind of monkey business it is? In my profession,I can't take my work less seriously. It is ethically wrong. So I decided to leave that God forsaken place. But..............do you see why there is so much incompetence.
Are you nuts?......no doubt I am crazy about you!
Mostly workers including me have attitude like this, but think about also the reasons, why are they doing this attitude.
Sponsorship?
Underpaid Salary?
Management?
But what do yani? We need income and this income are not paid to us way back in our country. (some)
Me honestly I'm too piss off to work but I just always remember and bare in my mind.
Thanks God I have work to leave and to survive.
We have all the right to react, but we all have different minds and belief...
the reason for all this misery is the FREAKIN' SPONSORHIP!!!.. YEAH THAT FREAKIN' SPONSORSHIP!!!. just imagine being treated like shit and be powerless to change job or challenge your sponsor. that's more than enough to NOT make me smile for a year. employers hire the WRONG people for a minimal amount of money and then trap them all here!.

Hello troublemaker,
A friend of mine who works in HR in Dubai told me that a lot of applicants simply lie in their resume. Once on the job, it is sometimes scary as they don't know much. The problem is that because of it, the expectations are much higher, they ask for a Ph.D and "65 years of experience" for a "simple" job.
I would like to come to Doha however, I expect as, anytime I change to have better.
PS1: Having a MBA, Ph.D... doesn't automatically mean being smart.
PS2: I work hard and it's true. ;)

stealth: if u find it sensible den u r not sensible
at last you typed some sensible thing drywood.
incompetent ppl r complaining abt other incompetent ppl
wish there were more ppl like u who thought like that..
there are an awful lot of people who work over here who are lazy, miserable buggers who simply cannot/will not put a decent days work in.
When you travel to Dubai, Abu Dhabi even Saudi Arabia ffs the staff over there seem to be happy they have a job and do it well. In Qatar there are very few people in shops/restaurants who look happy to have a job at all.
I know people say oh look at; ' what the labourers have to endure' and yes it is crap with a capital C, and something has to be done with that. I am not griping at them.
I am griping about waiters, shop assistants, teaching assistants, taxi drivers, maids etc; a handful and I mean a handful are pleasant and do their job with pride. Others clump around and look so fucking miserable.
You would think that common sense would dictate that IF things are so bad at home, they would at least be trying their best in job THEY APPLIED FOR AND GOT, in order to do well and make money in order for them to get home quicker.
With the network over here and the sheer number of people who get their 'relatives' jobs over here, they would at least let them know how 'hard' it it can be over here for them should they get the job.
As it is, most have 'degrees' and seem unhappy in their chosen job, so instead of telling the poster to go home if he does not like it. WHY not tell all these lazy, miserable bastards who do not have an ounce of work ethic to bugger off home.
I do my job well, I don't get paid a lot of money (not as much as I would at home), but I go in and do my very best because I am grateful to have a job and I made a commitment to my employee, never do I moan or gripe or not do it to the best of my capabilities.
To all those ungrateful people out there who have a job, buck up or go back.
Life it tougher elsewhere.

Ahhhhh....Don't complain! Just leave Qatar for good!
Sorry Robbie.. I would disagree with you, but I can't be bothered to give you a valid reason.
.. guys i wish and i want to make a difference... seriously.. i know things are not all that great over here but at the end of the day we all have chosen to come work here right!! .. i belive me i do give my 100 percent!! .. "work hard party harder" thats how i live my life!!.. but some ppl need to pull up their socks and start working without giving excuses all the time...
even when i used to go clubbing in doha it was so much of drama!!!... just to get into a club the hassle!! .. they check ur id!. they check the dress code!!.. u need to ba a part of a couple and if u got all tha u still have to pay!!! this is messed up!!! its like the bounces at these clubs were on such a power trip!!..
ok forget all that.. does anyone know whether qatar has a recycling p[lant??
I suspect, that since the expat worker needs a "permission to leave the country" from his employer in Qatar, this might be the start of the problem. I mean, it has to give the wrong messages to all involved...Worker feels like slave, employer feels like this is my opportunity to screw everybody and most of us, who like democracy more than food, would rather stay in our home countries. (Mean no disrespect to any hard working people that have no choice, but to feed they families.)
But it really is simple to solve it...Walk away from your jobs (not because you want more money of course) and demand changes (including the nonsence exit permit). It is all up to you.It needs unity, you need to stick together to achieve changes for the better. Bitching on the Forum will not do much. Organize yourself. It is 21st century. No more slaves! We all want to create, make better life for our selfs and families and to have better world for our children. (Is the evolution going right direction?) But unless you are all treated with dignity and also appreciated for what are you doing for the country that you are calling a temporary home, there would be very little smiles and satisfaction...in your heart. Think who is benefiting from the current situation and who can make the changes that you need. Try a little change each day (with yourselfs as well), over period of time it should be a significant change as a result. Who needs divisions, when most of us are more or less the same in basic needs and values. ( Please no negative feedbacks)

sometime monopoly and limited skilled resources with -ve attitudes are the main causes of incompetency......very well said and also the fact that the only key to success is arse kissing (or boot licking)
things are like that over here. No jobs for you and me if they were hardworkers. Keep the status quo. :)

Yeah , Pizza delivery works ,that is true, BUT I can NOT place the order over the phone , mostly they can't understand me or I can not understand them , UGH , I always have the same problem, very upsetting .
The mighty United Nations is impotent itself to a great extent and it's been established since 1945! Qatar is only 30-40 years young.

50% - 50% to be DONE OR NOT.
In my case, even if I don't hear that word...but due to the weather and it's RAMADAN, I let my maintenance have reast 2-3 hours early....no big deal.
The United Nations have called the Government of Qatar a "low expertise" government. So, what do you expect from the rest of the people?
Most of the things on display are the last piece ...duh?
Do you have a bigger one? No sir, last piece.
Do you have a different colour? No sir, last piece.
Its because they are trapped in their jobs....since they are getting shit....they are distributing it to others....
trouble, add an hour allowance for you pizza order...lol
work very quickly and efficiently :-)

well, you've been here longer than me, so i stand corrected. But still doesnt explain why my pizza is almost always late, and if it does come, its wrong.
PiscinePatel, you are very correct about that!!!
agree tess ...lol
"i dont think this happens to the majority of people here, a large minority maybe".
The majority of people here are laborers if I'm not mistaken and most laborers are now working outside under the heat of the sun and has a delayed salary of two months
Did you know the Ministries are still not e-friendly? Send them a fax, and then follow up with 25 telephone calls. Thats the way things work here. E-mail addresses are printed on name-cards just for the sake. Sometimes, they are not printed only.
Umm Salayum even in India projects moved faster than here, not just the west.
" Dont take life too seriously, you will never get out alive!!!"
off course being promised one thing and getting another will make one demoralised. I also believe that a lot of manpower companies prey on these people and take complete advantage. But......i dont think this happens to the majority of people here, a large minority maybe.

"I knew someone would say they are underpaid, what nonsense. Its still more than they get at home"
Watdapak!!! it should be more and more than what we get at home because we are away from home burning our ass in this shithole.
What a moron you are dude!!!
you get all kinds of people here, helpful people , not so helpful people and YES incompetent people, I must say my experience it more like frustrating here , I guess we have been spoiled coming from the west , .....
i never said i was competent.
Naah we love making you wait.. Did you notice what I put inside that pizzza??? U spending so much time on QL posting such gibberish during working hours doesn't make you very competent either..
" Dont take life too seriously, you will never get out alive!!!"
maybe if you made them faster i wouldnt have to wait.
troublemaker why dont you leave if you are so frustrated with this place rather than asking someone else to leave???
If your Pizza didn't come on time, It doesn't make everybody incompetent.
" Dont take life too seriously, you will never get out alive!!!"
What you've just complained about is completely irrelevant to the main post, it's more to do with lack of services and customer service concept.
Salam
I knew someone would say they are underpaid, what nonsense. Its still more than they get at home, if they had a job at all, so its no excuse. If they feel they are underpaid they can always leave and make way for someone with a better attitude.
Happy Happy, if you really need an explanation, call a pizza, call a taxi, go to a shop, if you have a positive experience with the staff, let us know.
I'm incompetent and i dont have any work to do in office...your statement applies to me very much :) what u gonna do about it though?
Good Fortune always comes knocking at your door...when you are sh*tting in the toilet!! :)

it is changing with time, sometime monopoly and limited skilled resources with -ve attitudes are the main causes of incompetency. Believe me exceptions to the rule are always there.

Hope for the Best and looking forward to Better Qatar soon!
All people "working" in Doha are incompetent and all of them "don't want to work"?
Please explain the sweeping paradox??
Salam
I havent met many hard workers in Doha. Its simple, the labourers, unskilled workers with an iota of common sense go to Dubai, or other UAE states, the rest come here.
Mind you its not just labourers, i've interviewed people with alleged MBA's who struggle with basic maths and English.
Pretty much yes,but there are some hard workers also :)
