How people with disabilities can travel during the World Cup
This year’s edition of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ is all set to be one of the most accessible World Cup for people with disabilities. The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy has taken multiple efforts to make several aspects of Qatar’s public transport and stadiums inclusive in terms of mobility for disabled people. The Accessibility Forum of the SC has taken into consideration multiple physical, cognitive, and mental health disabilities to ensure everyone is able to enjoy the tournament and be included in the overall experience.
Fans with physical disabilities arriving to Qatar can travel on public transport hassle-free. Here’s how each mode of public transport can be accessed by disabled people.
Doha Metro
The 37 metro stations in the Doha Metro’s Green, Red, and Golden Line: all of them are wheelchair-accessible and provide seamless transport option for those with disabilities. The metro stations have elevators to reach different floor levels quickly and metro features dedicated seats for those with constricted mobility. The metro even has vacant spaces for wheelchair users too. The boarding areas near the metro have tactile paving for those with visual impairments too. The Doha Metro and Tram also allows disabled people to have a registered guide/assistance dog.
Bus services
Public buses
For World Cup Qatar 2022, Mowasalat Karwa has introduced a new fleet of low-floor buses which can be wheelchair accessible with ramps. The bus stops have also been improved to enhance accessibility and the bus also features empty space for wheelchair inside the bus. Fans can travel inside the city on these public buses and shuttle services throughout the tournament.
Tournament bus service
The Match Day shuttle buses are also fitted with accessibility features and will operate on match days. The bus hubs will have staff members and they can e informed of disability requirements for assistance.
Taxi service
Not just limiting to buses, Karwa has also introduced a new fleet of taxi and limousines where disabled people can access the service easily. These can be booked on the mobile application or can be called on +974 800 8294 (toll-free).
Parking
A Vehicle Accessibility Parking Pass (VAPP) is required for being able to use the accessibility/wheelchair parking. The VAPP should be displayed in the front window for enabling staff and volunteers to direct the fans to the right designated parking space.

People with special needs (wheelchair) Travelling to FIFA Stadiums by METRO CANNOT USE their own wheelchair INSIDE the stadium. Also they need to make sure they book special needs car in Advance with KARWA via phone or APP as the buses are NOT suitable to board via wheeelchair . Since Mowasalat is the ONLY authorised transportation provider for Fifa stadiums most of the special needs Ticket holders are NOT aware that ONLY normal Karwa Buses are available upto the stadium. If they need special needs CAR they have to book in ADVANCE and PAY teh FARE applicable to avoid all the travelling hassles to FIFA Stadiums.
